Albums & Other Releases - FAKE WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING (EBAY) ITEMS

Post subject: FAKE WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING (EBAY) ITEMS
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spo...1QQcmdZViewItem

This is only a reel tape recorded with the music of "Metamorphoses" and some bonus tracks out off different other Jarre albums. Please note: as to my knowledge, there's only one reel tape with genuine Jarre music on it: the "Essential" compilation (1983 version that is. Please refer to my website at www.jarre.ch)

Nico_Noyau - Mon Mar 05, 2007 11:24 pm

I don't even understand what does he sell :P
Antigoon - Mon Mar 05, 2007 11:27 pm

A reel to reel tape with jarre recorded on it....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reel_to_reel

Nico_Noyau - Mon Mar 05, 2007 11:31 pm

Oh, ok, I understand, but he doesn't sell the music with ? :?
jarrekid - Tue Mar 06, 2007 8:18 am

"I am selling only the tape, spool and the library box, and NOT the music, but as long as you have the recordings yourself then there is no breach of copyright. "

LOL

GeeJee - Tue Mar 06, 2007 8:21 am

So who on earth would copy Metamorphoses on reel2reel and then sell it? It all makes perfect sense... :mryellow:
Nico_Noyau - Tue Mar 06, 2007 11:26 am

But he sells the BLANK tape, right ? :mryellow:
GeeJee - Tue Mar 06, 2007 12:14 pm

Nico_Noyau wrote:
But he sells the BLANK tape, right ? :mryellow:

As far as I'm aware - he's trying to get rid of the tape which still has Metamorphoses on it. It's like selling a DVD-RW which is not erased...

Nico_Noyau - Tue Mar 06, 2007 1:05 pm

But why does he say "I don't sell the music" ? :?
CLUBMIX - Tue Mar 06, 2007 1:16 pm

because for actually selling the music, he has to sell the music in its originality, that means: if Metamorphoses WAS released on reel2reel tape, he could sell it as it is. But as soon as he has only recorded Meta on that tape, he's not allowed to sell it (same as with home made CD-Rs of commercial releases). Instead of that, he's only selling the tape and "gives away" the music for free..... So this way he could not be sued legally (he's not making money with the explicit sale of music, but with selling a prerecorded tape)
Nico_Noyau - Tue Mar 06, 2007 1:57 pm

LOOOOOOOOOL
So he explicitly says that be did it himself :P

GeeJee - Tue Mar 06, 2007 3:55 pm

That's what I said - it makes no sense at all what he's trying to do. He may as well erase Metamorphoses from the tape and then sale it... :P

But let's not dig too deep into this one issue and return ontopic!

For a long time it was not quite clear if these Chinese or Taiwanese items Jorge Landeira was / is selling are genuine or Bootlegs. Looking at them now and also from talks I had with other collectors, I declare them as boots. This goes for the BRO189 CD release as well as for the "Limited Edition" of the "AERO" D410-162 DVD release.

This thread basically isn't about bootlegs in general, because we all know what bootlegs are, but with these two items being offered on eBay every other day, people should know that they're dealing with fake genuine items once they're crossing the following two:

BRO189:

D410-162:

moviemaker - Wed Mar 07, 2007 6:13 am

I'm glad you found out! Great detective work!

These were offered to me but I declined... and that seller never mentioned that they were bootlegs :?

GeeJee - Wed Mar 07, 2007 9:05 am

Still nice collectible bootlegs - they don't look homemade...
CLUBMIX - Wed Mar 07, 2007 12:18 pm

moviemaker wrote:

hm that's why I introduced these items as "for a long time, we didn't know..." And I already had them in the genuine "Aero" sections of my discography. But others kept asking: "These are bootlegs, You should place them in the boots section". "Fine", I said... and finally did. Thing is that the same kind of Chinese / Taiwanese DVD releases in the "Concerts / Compilations" chapter of the "Live In Beijing" section are categorized as genuine.

To tell you the truth: I don't want to discredit Jorge, in no way, just want to point out that this item needs special attention in deciding whether to bid on it or not.

CLUBMIX - Wed Mar 07, 2007 12:26 pm

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JEA...1QQcmdZViewItem

And of course that one. As we have been informed by different sources, this item, as well as the 1 track CD "Téo&Téa Promo Edition" offered by eBay user roderick2254 and / or muzicman2006, are not genuine. So paying any money for either one of these is your own responsibility. Roderick2254 / muzicman will, when asked for photographs of these items, reply with a sentence like "camera broken" or something... :mryellow:

We are aware that these CDs look fairly well done and quite officially issued, but they're not!

Nico_Noyau - Wed Mar 07, 2007 12:36 pm

CLUBMIX - Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:17 pm

weeeelllll..... I must admit that this T&T DVD stinks.....but: we don't have any official confirmation if this release really is a fake or not. We would all be a bit astonished if tat eBay user mik-aly would provide the "T&T" video in 5.1 sound format which would mean that the disc was the real deal.... ;-)
GeeJee - Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:18 pm

It can be a copy as well... with ease. Would it be genuine just because it contains a 5.1 mix?
CLUBMIX - Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:22 pm

right. Well, it would be more of a genuine item with an included 5.1 sound mix, because this hasn't been released yet, unless as a promotional sample
CLUBMIX - Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:23 pm

Hi experts:

Is this a fake?

http://cgi.ebay.es/ws/eBa...em=140129912506

It has the AERO prods. logo
Many thanks

Nico_Noyau - Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:40 pm

Yes, I saw that one some days ago, it looks fake for me, the prints in the middle of the CD looks home-made ;)
GeeJee - Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:46 pm

It's very unlikely to be genuine in deed.
palomera - Wed Jun 20, 2007 12:18 am

Many thanks, that's what i thought, but what about the sleeve??, Made in Thailand?, is it home made too?. Thanks
GeeJee - Wed Jun 20, 2007 12:54 am

I think so, yes.
This bootlegger has obviously tried to make it look genuine, but forgot about a few details. Warner would never ever write "promotional" like that around the middle rim of the disc...
And a promo for Thailand? They just recently invented vinyl over there.. come on :P

palomera - Wed Jun 20, 2007 4:51 am

hahahahaha Ok many thanks :D

Most likely fake. I have both the US and Brazilian issue of the DVD, both state NTSC on the case. It would be strange if one of the other two Brazilian issues are PAL...

Whats sly about this is that we know it's fake, but to anyone else it could very well be genuine. The seller cleverly covers his/her back by not saying it's genuine. This way, anyone who buys it, realises what it is and says "It's not genuine", the seller can say "I never said it was in the first place".

Jakob BC - Tue Jul 24, 2007 7:20 pm

But it is still illegal to sell piratecopies in most countries
GeeJee - Thu Jul 26, 2007 1:13 am

CLUBMIX - Thu Jul 26, 2007 1:34 pm

Warner could, though
GeeJee - Thu Jul 26, 2007 1:47 pm

Question is if they want to do that much effort.
CLUBMIX - Thu Jul 26, 2007 2:20 pm

...if this effort would result in stopping fake-CD sellers, then I think yes.....
GeeJee - Thu Jul 26, 2007 2:22 pm

I doubt. The seller doesn't make that much money.
Jon - Thu Jul 26, 2007 2:46 pm

We know they are fake, the unsusspected buyer doesn't, so the seller can feed the buyer any old bullshite just to make a bit of money. I have been on the receiving end of one of the idiots in the past. They just play dumb saying "well, I didn't realise it wasn't genuine". Then either pay you back or just ignore you for the rest of the transaction, most of the time it's the latter.
GeeJee - Thu Jul 26, 2007 2:50 pm

@ CLUBMIX
I don't think that Jose Pin is going to sell it, he knows that it's a bootleg, but still he wanted to buy it 'cos he likes it, he's a little bit weird hahaha :D , and he owns a great collection about Jarre, Oldfield & Tangerine Dream, official releases & bootlegs.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Jea...1QQcmdZViewItem

What's interesting is that this person always wrote in his auction text: "This is a rare DVD a friend of mine brought from Asia". Apparently, eBay closed some of his auctions down, so he had to change his text into "for auction is a rare DVD of Jean Michel Jarre with the 1993's (!!) concert 'Concert Pour La Tolérance' in Paris. The DVD seems quite rare! Dear eBay team, this is a legally published and rare bootleg from the Aero Productions Club Fan which is allowed to be sold in England and no copy. MFS fake

http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBa...s_promot_widget

marcoblom - Fri Jan 11, 2008 10:48 pm

I bought this one on eBay: Jean-Michel Jarre Oxygene Live 2-D Abbey Road Promo DVD and I received it today. Now that I have it, I'm not sure it's genuine, because the print on the DVD-R is 'smeared' and when playing the disc it starts with a menu like from a consumer hard disk/DVD recorder and ends with a couple of minutes of nothing. Otherwise it's just a copy if the whole performance (in 2D) which could make it suspicious too. It looks like it was just copied from a DVD player to a DVD recorder. However, this promo does appear on eBay in other packages that look genuine like the JEAN MICHEL JARRE "OXYGENE 30TH ANNIVERSARY" PROMO as the one in the top right corner. It's mentioned on jarre.ch but my DVD has a slightly different text on the top lines. And it has a technical fault which stops the player for some 15 seconds while it skips it.

Any ideas of it is genuine or fake? Did anyone else buy this one (I saw more of these from the same seller)?

Dr_Jones - Fri Jan 11, 2008 11:13 pm

Hmm, that's why I'm avoiding CD-R promos.

must be very fake, record companies hardly do DVD-R copies as promos and definitly not with DVD recorder menus...

Antigoon - Fri Jan 11, 2008 11:34 pm

FAKE!
CLUBMIX - Sun Jan 13, 2008 12:42 am

difficlut to really tell, but there are 3 different promos available: the CD promo (with the 6 black squares on the inner CD ring) and the 2D as well as the 3D DVD version.

I'd say they're genuine, as even the eBay seller raydiophonic is selling them from time to time (he is very trusted to only sell genuine material)

I'm afraid it's a fake too, and it turns out to be defective as well. I'm returning it to the seller for a refund.

marcoblom - Sun Jan 13, 2008 3:40 pm

I did buy another OLIYLR 2D-3D promo DVD-R (or +R), which I believe is genuine. It's a double layer DVD, I don't think that many bootleggers would use that. Its content is identical to the 2D-3D retail version including the odd year 2036 of the files (did anyone notice that...) but the file sizes are sometimes different. So I figure it must be an pre-production version with slightly different video coding.

It also has the name and telephone number of a (the?) French production company on the edge.

Still you thoughts: is this one genuine?

FAKE perhaps.....???

The seller lists it as Being from the EIC tour in 93,don't recall this font and logo being used until the Oxygene tour and I certainly never seen any of these for sale or worn by the crew if they were issued to them at either EIC 93 or Oxy tour 97 concerts, the Logo is certainly from the Oxygene tour,as its the same as was used on the Poloshirt(Which was embroided) and featured on the T-shirts in print but never seen this.item of clothing...

Nice Item but certainly Not official..

I never fail to be amazed by the prices some people will pay for 'rare' items. Just been going through the completed eBay listings and you wouldn't believe there's a recession on-

Jean Michel Jarre Hayward gallery promo CD & presskit = 179 Euro (1 bid)
OXYGENE Jean Michel Jarre. SEALED MFSL - 200 g. Vinyl = 208 Dollars (15 bid)
Jarre Oxygen in Moscow promo CD = 140 Euro (1 bid) = 140 Euros (1 bid)
Swatch europe in concert jean michel jarre (collectors cone) = 100 Pounds (buy it now)
Jean Michel Jarre - Live Beijin EPK - GERMAN PR0M0 DVD = 105 Dollars (6 bids)
Jean Michel Jarre: OXYGENE CD + DVD + 3D = 66 Euros (9 bids)

At the other end of the scale there's been some absolute bargains-

CD SINGLE - JEAN MICHEL JARRE - Rendez-Vous 98 = 0.06 Pence (3 bids)
Jean Michel Jarre's classic "OXYGENE" - newspaper's CD = 0.20 Pence (1 bid)
JEAN MICHEL JARRE OXYGENE 8 12" single = 0.60 Pence (1 bid)
Sessions 2000 - Jarre, Jean-Michel (CD 2003)U361 = 0.66 Pence (2 bids)

Jakob BC - Mon Dec 22, 2008 12:07 pm

That's why some of the rare goodies sometimes are far too expensive, 'cause there is always someone who will spend one month of their income on Jarre items instead of food and toiletpaper :P

I have seen these. Not fake. They were cheaply produced at the time of the docklands concert. They were not official merchandise.

Finaero - Sat Mar 28, 2009 11:48 pm

Fan merchandise? Or... mercfandise? :nico:
Jon - Sat Mar 28, 2009 11:52 pm

If you think about it, they cant put a image on the cover from the concert if the concert hasn't yet taken place. I have only seen 3 types made for the Docklands show. The official one has the black cover with the cranes/satalite dish on. The other two had the Lyon image and the Jarre face Revolutions album cover. Those unofficial ones were sold by punters out on the streets where as the official ones came from the merchandise stalls. I remember the EiC tours in both Manchester and London, there were guys selling t-shirts out on the streets.
Jon - Sat Mar 28, 2009 11:56 pm

Which reminds me. . . . . . I have 2 of the EiC t-shirts. One official (in black) and one unofficial (in white). The white one is very cheap and thin material compared to the black one.
Dr_Jones - Sun Mar 29, 2009 10:12 am

Wasn't that the Destination Jarre Docklands program? It had some photocopies from magazines, interviews and articles in it, iirc.
Phil J. - Sun Mar 29, 2009 4:23 pm

The unofficial programs were not fan made. They were sold by bootleggers who simply ripped the fans off. Just like the t-shirts sold after the Oxygene shows in 1997.

Official program-

Unofficial 1-

Unofficial 2-

This is a bootleg. It has been released in 1993. Mind the '93' as suffix to the original number on the label.

In 1993, I bought this record new in at Fame Music in Amsterdam, so I believe it's a pressed in Holland. They seemed to have unlimited stock in this shop for a short time. Bear in mind that Fame Music isn't just a small, second hand shop or something. It's a large CD store. Four years later, Jarre was there himself, promoting his Oxygene 7-13 album just before the release.

I bought this LP too in 1993 and the seller say to me that it was imported from Holland. May be you are right that it was pressed in Holland...

I bought mine in 1993 too from a guy from The Netherlands. He told that it was a semi-official release to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album. But for me it is just a bootleg, which is made very good. For me it was the first chance to listen to that album, so I didn´t care in 1993 if it was a bootleg or not.

Have you contacted eBay? You should look into their VERO scheme which looks after Interlectual Property Rights, here's the link http://pages.ebay.co.uk/h...ms-vero-ov.html

AFAN Alessandro Fantini - Fri Oct 23, 2009 3:20 pm

Unfortunately it seems that this digipack has been already pressed in 500 or more copies in 2008 in a sort of digipack deluxe edition by an illegal russian label called Star Mark compilations.
Today I've noticed out that more copies resurfaced on Ebay
http://shop.ebay.it/items...hitsd&_osacat=0
and that it's still on sale on many other music webstores.

On this website there's also a visual presentation of the digipack
http://muz-heaven.com/php...68e48c4e1deadce
where you can clearly see that they infringed four times the copyright by exploiting

1- The music of Jarre
2- My painting
3- The photos used for the inlay printings
4-The Warner Music logo

Therefore I think that I cannot stop this illegal international commerce just sending some email to Ebay or webmasters.

It looks stunning and although it resembles a real Japanese MFSL-release it's probably a Russian bootleg. The CD says 'Ultradisc II' and as far as I know, official Japanese MFSL-releases are called "Ultradisc I'.

UltraDisc I = made in japan
like this one:

UltraDisc II = made in US
like this one:

From Wikipedia -

Each Ultradisc was made in Japan, until the release of Queen's A Night at the Opera in October 1992. At this point, discs were made exclusively in the US and given the Ultradisc II designation. Many of the early Ultradisc titles were re-pressed in the US, and given the Ultradisc II designation.

Current MFSL releases include SACDs and LPs, as well as the traditional Ultradisc II gold discs. The original company folded in November, 1999 when their main distributor went bankrupt, taking a large chunk of deliverable money with them. In 2002, the label was resurrected by Music Direct and has been producing well received Super Audio CDs, GAIN 2 Ultra Analog Limited Edition vinyl, Ultradisc II Gold CDs and Ultradisc CD-Rs since then.

Thing is . . . . and I'm not sticking up for the bootleggers . . . . the sale of that 'Interior' music is cleverly listed. He does not mention it's original, and clearly marks it as a CD-r. It is the buyer who perceives it that way at the end of the day. An item is worth as much as the buyer wants to pay. If the buyer does not like the fact it's not the original, the seller can easily fall back on saying "I never said it was original".
GeeJee - Fri Feb 26, 2010 1:39 pm

True, it clearly states CDr, does not mention it's the original and the pictures obviously show it's not the real thing, cause it looks different.

That 7" is a very nice item (although it's a bootleg). I remember I spent some time looking for this one on the internet, but nothing. And when I found it, it was too expensive! One day, I received a package at home. I said, "wtf is this? I'm not waiting for any record". Surprise!!! It was sent to me by a Dutch friend as a present, and he hadn't told me anything about it :fine:

An interesting thing about this record is that it says it was made in Spain, but it wasn't. This was done on purpose, to avoid any illegal issue. Also, when you play the record, as mentioned on another topic, you can see the human shape turn into a male! :punch:

The guy listed it, then deleted it, then re-listed it for a higher price. However, as someone mentions here, this is a bootleg. The vinyl is official, but the sleeve is fake. A couple of months ago, another one was sold on ebay. The sleeve of that one looked more professional but this one is clearly a copy of that sleeve.

Not a fake item, but the description is quite ... odd.

Interesting... well, at least that one is advertised as a fake from the start.

Well, here's the full collection

I guess in addition to using text from COTM, the CDs themselves use some custom-made edit of the concerts since PLD for one seems to have the VHS version of Rendez-Vous 2 and a heavily truncated Calypso (Encore).

Actually, there are 13 books. It also has one about the Music for Supermarkets album

Finaero - Tue Jan 08, 2019 1:01 pm

Ah, yes, forgot about that one.

All the sketchiness aside... those books/discs are what JMJ/Sony should be releasing themselves.

What a timing, this bootleg boxset is also up for grabs

This seller has a bunch of nice bootleg JMJ records...

... but still, of all the things to turn into a bootleg LP. :P

Well, not exactly fakes, but custom items nonetheless. Not bad either, especially considering that they made a pin for the best keytar ever made:

Nice, the full set of those bootleg books (Houston included) is on sale again. ;)

However, this time I'm far more intrigued by the cover art (and the misplaced hyphen) of this bootleg cassette:

Also, it took me this long to find the first comment about the actual quality of those bootleg books + CDs:
