Albums & Other Releases - Another new album by Jean Michel Jarre

Black Bird - Thu Dec 08, 2016 7:50 pm
Post subject: Another new album by Jean Michel Jarre
Great pleasure to have another new album at the beginning next year: :peacemaan:

"Radiophonie Vol.9 " (I dont know about Vol.1-8)

It will be out on 13.Jan. 2017

https://www.amazon.de/dp/...s=Radiophonie+9

shadow - Thu Dec 08, 2016 9:52 pm

Are we sure this is even correct?
Black Bird - Thu Dec 08, 2016 10:50 pm

This moment we think this will be an album with his "Radio-jingle songs" Maybe most Jingles are cut from a longer version ? (like the short cut from "Glory" in the vodaphone advertising )

Wait and see .... :D

shadow - Thu Dec 08, 2016 10:57 pm

I just hope there will be singles from the past 40 years on them, now that'd be great*!

*if mastered properly

Josue143803 - Thu Dec 08, 2016 11:55 pm

What I'm really hoping to see is that 19 minute long track from before the Oxygne Tour
(You know, the one played by some Derain guy)

Velodynamic - Fri Dec 09, 2016 1:44 am

This is just too weird. :P
It's not one of those albums where JMJ is just picking different artists to make an album?

Josue143803 - Fri Dec 09, 2016 3:38 am

Edit: Don't mind this.
Dr_Jones - Fri Dec 09, 2016 10:35 am

Sounds like the Franceinfo jingle, I thought it was called Hexagone.
Anyway, good news if true!

Dr_Jones - Fri Dec 09, 2016 11:03 am

Looks like some sort of compilation album issued by Radio France. Radiophonie vol. 7 is another release by them, but different people:
http://www.cultura.com/ra...9028068528.html

Dr_Jones - Fri Dec 09, 2016 11:44 am

Or an hour-long interview? It might be a CD version of this:

Kanta - Fri Dec 09, 2016 2:00 pm

Confirmed! As if 3 albums in 18 months was not enough, there is ANOTHER Jarre album coming in January 2017 and that is indeed "Radiophonie" vol 9 with compositions by JMJ, made for FranceInfo, performed by a big orchestra. Digipack, 62 minutes (if I interpret the info correctly), catalogue number SIG81900. Info from the distributor / record label. (This is still not the "other" news I am expecting soon, though.)

What the hell!? :D
The Sound-Oven - Fri Dec 09, 2016 11:25 pm

Splendid news. More the merrier. This album will be different but no less enjoyable than any other JMJ album. It will be very unique and a standalone.

Thank you Jean Michel :)

That's Web Spinner. A solo track he composed during the Electronica project and since then performed live during the tour. Don't think it's got something to do with this album

Would love for him to release that song, plus the live versions of the others. Especially Circus (dat bass opening)

Anyway, this is nice news :bravo:

Couldn't agree more on Circus and Web Spinner. The "mostly instrumental" Glory would also be cool to have.

I think this one is less distorted.
I also think that Web Spinner is played right after the track Cirkus every time.

Thanks, got that one.

Anyhow, there's a short preview of Radiophonie vol 9 on Youtube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEcvcBzNWmU

Not sure if it's from the actual album or ripped from one of the franceinfo videos (sounds a bit different to me).

Third preview! Short jingles this time.

Velodynamic - Sun Jan 08, 2017 2:08 am

Except for the already announced franceinfo jingle I think it sounds more like isolated samples rather then completed tracks. A bit minimalistic.

Umm. Well. They are JINGLES first and foremost. There are longer tracks as evidenced by the second preview video.

I think I just wait and see what this is really all about this time. :nico:
I mean I'm used to JMJ putting more multible sounds into a mix then what I hear in this.

Dr_Jones - Sun Jan 08, 2017 9:31 pm

Ordered it at my local recordstore. It'll be there coming Friday. Odd that we don't have any previews yet online (except those posted on youtube which I am sceptical of)
Jote - Mon Jan 09, 2017 5:42 am

It's pretty odd that there has been no official communication from team JMJ regarding this release (unless I missed somthing).

Why are you skeptical of those youtube previews, Jones? You don't like them or are you questioning authenticity?

They are all things we've already heard from the FranceInfo TV channel (at least, I 've heard them on that channel). Nothing in the previews give me the impression they're from the CD. In September, they re-recorded stuff with orchestra for this release, I can't hear any orchestra in the samples. So I'm a bit sceptical, but we'll know this Friday for sure.

This seems like more or less a full length track, could it have been just recorded off TV? Anyway I haven't heard this particular music yet.

Also, I didn't know there was a "re-record", although I recall something about orchestra being involved, but I thought it was just recorded like this from the beginning.

"Proper" or not, it's still a release containing music by JMJ, pretty sure a decent amount of people would be interested in it?

I think the preview 1 has some strings ...but for the whole album I think it will be a mixture on it. (The original recordings by Jarre and the later Modifications )

Yeah but when has his record label ever done anything helpful?

Jote - Tue Jan 10, 2017 1:41 pm

Not sure what you are getting at, Electronica had excellent promotion, Oxygene 3 promotion was pretty decent, Radiophonie promotion is non-existent.
Goudeskitchen - Thu Jan 12, 2017 5:07 pm

The bol.com page has been updated with a 'product description' but don't know how accurate it is!

Fraxis - Thu Jan 12, 2017 9:11 pm

99 new Jarre tracks this year already! I think that's a record for him. ;-)
Dr_Jones - Fri Jan 13, 2017 2:39 pm

I've got the CD. And yes, it's got 99 tracks. Some are 9 seconds, some 10, some 2 or 3 minutes.

It's all small bumper tracks you can expect from a radio and tv channel. Some are extensive background tracks. Most are variations on one theme, the main theme of Franceinfo.

It's got a lot of ringtone material.

shadow - Fri Jan 13, 2017 4:50 pm

That sounds really good! I hope I'll be able to purchase it in a few weeks along with Return to Ommadawn!
Jon - Fri Jan 13, 2017 8:33 pm

Nice surprise to kick off the new year... and ordered from Germany.
lacobo - Tue Jan 17, 2017 8:11 pm

Received "Radiophonie Vol.9" today. Most of the 99 tracks sound more or less the same (although vary in length), but there are some gems between them. For me the most interesting track is "Hexagone 61" which has the feeling of Jarre's pre-Oxygene(1) work. Nice!

Bert.

Jote - Wed Jan 18, 2017 11:21 am

My tip for listening to Radiophonie is to put all tracks into playlist and sort them by duration in DESCENDING order (longer goes first)!
Jon - Fri Jan 27, 2017 2:57 pm

Of the 99 tracks spanning 62 minutes there are a small handful of lengthy tracks, a few gems too. But the 80+ you could class as Jarre Alert Tones for your mobile devices. I am sure someone could have a field day taking all the segments and making one or two mixes. Certainly repetitive, but that is the point, and so its more a fan collectible as apposed to your standard album. Must be the largest amount of same name tracks with Jarre's name to it - HEXAGON 1 - 99

This disc seems to contain a mastering designed for radio broadcasting.

There is a cut at 15 khz (like with an mp3 @96 kbps), ie Hexagone 14 :

Someone suggests this mastering could come from Netia software used by Franceinfo FM radio to broadcast in "mp2 @256 kbps". (http://forums.lenodal.com...=504504#p504504)

Yes. (It may sound strange for a "CD-DA" but I think it was done intentionally.... I have none of the previous "Radiophonie" to compare. :| )

That's quite a shame that the whole thing is of lower quality. Might be worth a shot to send an email to see if it was deliberate or that something went wrong.

I understand from this discussion that apparently even despite 99 tracks the CD does not include everything? There are supposedly "more orchestral" versions used by franceinfo?

I read somewhere that Hexagone was composed in 10 days, and JMJ provided about 230 tracks to "franceinfo:". (Due to Red Book limitation we can have 99 tracks on a CD-DA.)

It seems that some are a little bit more orchestral and not on the CD.

Jon - Mon Jan 30, 2017 4:29 pm

For those who may have downloaded the tracks from somewhere but missing the artwork.

They should've released it as a digital download and that would solve that problem...

My thoughts exactly. The 1000 copies are what I deduced from Glenn's post. It's as much as Interior Music and the Electronica Deluxe Box.

As Glenn says it: there were more than 1000 copies made (it's unknown how much), but they want to make another 1000 extra.

Bol.com says 2-3 weeks... Hope we can get an update here when additional copies are pressed.

And when they are, what do you think would be the best bet to place an order? Amazon?

The Sound-Oven - Thu Feb 02, 2017 10:12 pm

Whatever website can offer the CD quicker than just order it from there. Didn't Amazon.de have any stock left?

You could try eil.com but they might charge more

Hope you get it soon :)

When it's an "import" it's not always reliable; some sites will claim 1-2 weeks, some will claim 2-3 weeks... But I guess it all boils down to which site will process the order first and order it from the distributor. There are for instance stores in Poland that claim "9 days" or "14 days" but I know for sure that they don't have it in stock and if I placed an order today they'd have to order it and then tell me "sorry, the distributor doesn't have it anymore". I definitely learned my lesson with the Oxygene Trilogy Box, and the lesson is "do not order any JMJ limited editions in Poland, 'cause you'll get screwed" :)

Quote:

Nope, they're out as of yesterday.

Quote:

eil.com doesn't even offer this release :)

For the time being I ended up ordering it from amazon.co.uk - it is "temporarily out of stock" but still allowed me to order ("Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information."). We'll see what happens.

The interesting thing is that when I ordered it yesterday it was 14.25 GBP, now it's at 12.46. There's also one "in stock" copy for 43 GBP, but I'm going to skip this one :)

Hotmailer - Sun Feb 19, 2017 4:49 am

I also checked several sites and indeed most of them give the 'not available' sign or have the page deleted.
But now I checked on amazon.co.jp and there it was/is still available.

I've ordered it approx. 45 minutes ago for 29,85 incl. shipping and handling.
Ok, granted it's not cheap but looks like it's the only option left.

Now the question is "will it ship?"

Edit: After translating the Japanese page I could read "Usually ships within 1 to 2 months."
Looks like this is a lost cause.

Finaero - Tue Feb 21, 2017 1:11 pm

Yeah, I thought I could have snatched it from CDon.com since their estimation for its arrival was 4-7 working days, but they sent me a message that it's been discontinued so I got my money back.

Not that big of a loss, but eh.

But the question remains (mostly unanswered by this thread), are these jingles better than the M6 TV (or whatever) ones from 2001?
