Post subject: Marcorporation is here
Hey all.

Someone of you know me but i think most of you don't.
I am Marco from Sassenheim in Holland.
Always busy with music since i was a child and nowadays i am working in a studio as mastering engineer, mixing dance CD's and mastering some dance, pop, party and other music for vinyl,CD or DVD.

Someone of you know me for my Jean-Michel Jarre Megamix, made somewhere in 1993,it is still hangin around somewhere on the internet.
My biggest bang is my remix i did for the Dutch Oxygene 10 remix competition, and i won that competition so my remix was released on CD Single in 1998.

Also i'm a member from dutch synth group (M)ercurey and with Johan (Leodav)i am working on the final mixprocess of our 1st album.

Greetz,Marco

Yeah I've got a low quality one of that. A high quality one would be neat someday :P

Nico_Noyau - Mon Sep 04, 2006 9:34 am

Welcome here Marco !
I would like to congratulate you for your Megamix, I really love it and listen to it quite often, it is a masterpiece !
As Finaero said, would it be possible from you to make a better quality one ?
What is the title of your Oxygène 10 Remix ?

Regards,
Nicolas

Hej, I have that one too 8)

marcostudio - Tue Sep 05, 2006 3:06 pm

Well,about that megamix,

I have a master version on DAT (the mix was done with a cassettedeck, using the pause button for editting and 2 TDK SA 60 cassettes to do the mix).

I used tapeloops (from reel to reel tapes) of a few drumrythmtracks of Jarretracks.
So i record a rythmtrack on reel to reeltape and i cut the first beat and the last beat and stick them together with special editingtape,so you have a continues loop when you play it on the taperecorder, using a selfmade setup made by LEGO stones ;-) to lead the tape trought the heads of the taperecorder.
Then i record those loops on a Cassettetape for 5 minutes,i made a pitch control on another cassettedeck so i could match the tempo of the loops on the tracks i used in the megamix.
Then record all pieces i want on DAT and if the loops were in sync with the track played under that loop i record and edit it on the "master cassettedeck"

The mix is aprox 45 minutes, and with eldorado you hear a phasing effect.
that was another crucial point, cause then i made a "livemix" from the first cassettetape to another, because i used 60 minute cassettetapes and as you know each side contains 30 minutes;-)
So i must do a live crosover mix,to swith from the 1st mastertape to the second one.
And that recording was record on DAT.

Ahhhh.those were the days of hard working on a mix of that size and quality ;-) ;-)

Nowadays i can do it much better with the computer, using a program such as Ableton live;-)

But i have no plans to make copy's of that mix, because of the time i mostly don't have.
So you all must search on the internet or ask another fan for a copy.

Last year i found a site where some guy was selling Jarre bootlegs and one of those bootlegs was my megamix.
I made it for fun and some guy uses it to make money on it..
SHAME ON YOU!!!

So that's another reason that i don't make a copy of it.

Cheers,Marco

And about the oxygene 10 remix

It was made with a Roland JX1 (the organ sound in the beginning, same sound as the lead in "Felix - Don't You Want My Love")
A Kawai K1 II ,the Yamaha CS1X,and a Roland TR 626 drumcomputer.
The soundcard was a Creative AWE 32 and it had an onboard soundfont player/sampler.
I had a few samples and a MIDIfile from Oxygene 10 wich were available on the internet especially to use it for your remix.
I "Master" those samples and play it in the remix, but in another context than JMJ used in the original.
The sequencer was Cakewalk 3.0 and i edit it in a multitrack program, adding some effects.

I made also 2 other remixes, but the first one was the one who won.

Ciao,Marco

Antigoon - Thu Sep 07, 2006 2:54 pm

I have those other 2 remixes too, and it's a shame that breakbeat version wasn't the one chosen IMO...

A different version of that winning mix was also made for the (M)ercurey concert in 1998, the live version of that mix can be found on www.mercurey.info for those that are curieus ;-)

marcostudio - Thu Sep 07, 2006 5:37 pm

O yeah, one Of those other mixes contains a breakbeat ;)

Now i remember ;)

Never heard of that VST guy....

About Satriani, well... he's a good guitarplayer and all (and also a very nice guy), but the only way we could get in contact with him is to call Patrick Rondat and ask Patrick to give Joe a call....

So why not stick to the guy we allready know ;-)
