Hi All,

I've just got myself a JD-XA although I've not had it long I'm quite impressed with it so far, I know there are somethings that other folks have suggested roland update, but ain't that always the case these days, anyways was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on whether jarre might have consider this to be one to play with, after all he has had a fair few rolands over the years and this one allows you you to mix analog with digital.

Thoughts ?

Hi Matt,

I had a similar dilema when I got all my gear out of moth balls after about 8 years.

I ended up buying an i5 laptop with 8gb Ram with loads of hard drive space and replacing my mixer with one that had USB audio in/out.

This seemed to work well for me, besides if you invest in any new synths they seem to come with USB audio in/out so you can always record direct from the synth or through the mixer.

The mixer I went for was a Behringer Xynex X1832

Anything is possible, I have the official Song Book for Waiting for Cousteau and according to the percussion section those sounds are low agogo but as we know the song books arn't always correct.

If you discover anything let us know and I'll do the same

Yeah so it would seem, but I don't know what the patch is I have pretty much all the patches to be found on the internet but non sound like this.

I thought it was a sample just run through a drum machine or something alike.

I've got both a D-550 & 50

I bring back this old topic because I'm interested in replicating one sound of Calypso part 2.

That kind of click/snap/snack that you can hear in repetition at about 2.20 - 2.28 - 2.35 - 2.44
an so on

are the instruments he used on the album, what could have used for doing it?

In 1989-90 I remember to have heard almost the same sound coming from the Waldorf Microwave 1: I was in a music instruments store, but it wasn't me playing the synth in that moment... but that sound just impressed in my memory.
Never had a Microwave in my hands again, so I don't know how it was done (could be a wavetable trick beside analog filter manipulation?)

Please, any suggestion on what kind of synth is best to try and on what parameters work most for obtaining the same power of the snap?
Thank you in advance.

If its the sound I think you are on about I have a wav file that I downloaded from another site http://jarrologmusic.free.fr/patchs/listing.php its under the d-50 section as noiseshot.wav apparently its was from F. Rimbert distributed by bank Keyboards I think its the one but in the track it has some delay and other effects, I'm currently working on a cover of Calypso II so have been experimenting with this sound. See what you think

I managed to do the sequences using the Appegiator on my Roland GAIA, you can create any patterns you want on it and it works quite well, so its a bit like a step sequencer.

:D

Thanks thedk for the refil really helped me create my patch for the GAIA
