Since 26th September there have been 114 new members, all with very suspicious usernames, just click on memberlist & sort by descending, notice they are all female & all profiles contain links to very questionable websites.
21 more of them registered since midnight last night.
For my forum I use a website called stop forum spam to check new members, this site has a database of all known spammers usernames, emails and IP addressses, & I checked some of these new members on this database & quite a few of them are listed as reported spammers.
None of them have posted anything yet though or even logged into the forum.

As far as I know there is no script to clear all these users from the database.
You'd have to delete them all individually.
You might be able to mass delete users through phpMyAdmin through your server's control panel, but would be an idea to backup the database first, they should be in the database table PHPBB_USERS
Setting new registartions to admin approval would stop them from registering but it's having someone check on a daily basis.
Upgrading the board from phpbb2 to phpbb3 is very complicated, but phpbb3 has much better spambot controls, I use one called sortables captcha which is very effective.

I pop on here everyday so have been letting Kanta know about these posts.
There's nearly 1000 spam users on here & they are registering on a daily basis so it must be a bot doing it.
Just beats me why they do it, surely they must have better things to do than set up these bots to spam forums.
They must know everytime they do it they'll get their posts removed & banned.

That's OK Adam, they just seemed to be more visible than usual lately, so thought I would add my two pence ...
( ps - I also visit here most days to look around, even though I haven't logged in for a while before today, so I had already noticed you are quick to pick up these things .... )
