It is not a percussion instrument, it is like when you are playing on glass filled with water.

Exactly. Sometimes it's also called a glass-organ, I think...

Basically works like a sophisticated setup of tuning forks......but each glass rod represents an actual pitched note instead of fixed resonance like a tuning fork
