The making of:
Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene Trilogy Poster - White Duck Editions
In 1976, Jean-Michel Jarre made the opening statement in his musical magnum opus with the release of the original Oxygene. 20 years on, he released the second part, Oxygene 7-13. Now, a further 20 years down the line, and a full 40 years since the release of the classic first album, Jarre has, with the release of Oxygene 3, completed the trilogy that will define his life’s work in music.
For the project’s artwork, Jarre revisited the classic skull artwork of the first album, originally created by Michel Granger. Jarre reworked the skull into a 3D model, and then captured it from new angles to give it a fresh sense of purpose. Of the skull, Jarre notes:
“The cover artwork became famous, like an ecological warning signal, dark and surreal, evoking both outer space and that of our vital living space: this image, for me, has become inseparable from the music.”
To coincide with the release of Oxygene 3 and the completion of the trilogy, White Duck was enlisted to produce the worldwide edition of this iconic skull poster.
Screen printed with metallic silver and gold ink, onto 270gsm ebony black stock, and in an edition of 400, the poster has a lustrous, timeless feel.
Someone probably know the exact source, since I've honestly forgotten it. But I've been listening to a file called Paris_before_concert.mp3, it features a short piece of Oxygene 19 about halfway through the track. I want to say it was before the Monaco concert, but I think that one was different.
