JMJ Becomes Artistic Director of the World Sky Race

UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Jean-Michel Jarre has agreed to become the Artistic Director of the World Sky Race launched in a partnership between the nongovernmental U.S.-based World Air League and UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre.

The aim of the World Sky Race is to promote environmental protection and the use of lighter-than-air skyships as a means to reduce pollution and pressures caused by transportation.

Ok, the project will not happen more in 2010, but just in 2011(or 2012):

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/09/17/airship_race/
Apart from Augustine and his unnamed donors, Hartsell has secured the backing of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, as the plan is for the racing airships to pass various designated world heritage sites and so focus attention on them: the UN officials hope that this will mean the sites get better care taken of them as a result. French electropop titan Jean-Michel Jarre - a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador - will also be lending his talents as the race's "artistic director".

More information from "THE WALL STREET JOURNAL"

The event would begin on the prime meridian in England on Sept. 23, 2011, returning to Europe on March 20, 2012—about six weeks before the 75th anniversary of the LZ-129 Hindenburg disaster in which 36 people were killed in a field in Lakehurst, N.J.

BUT: But while many in the blimp world say they're intrigued by Mr. Hartsell's idea, nobody has officially signed up yet. Mr. Hartsell says "discussions are still going on."

I got a news about this World Sky Race...postponed to 2014 or never happen :|

News from CNN:

http://edition.cnn.com/2012/08/17/tech/innovation/world-blimp-race/

Code: Select all

Hartsell is talking about his World Sky Race, which as conceived would be a grand global spectacle. If all goes according to plan, a fleet of airships will take off from London in 2014 and race each other around the world, watched by millions of spectators, before finishing six months later just outside of Paris.
