Jarre can be the next president of the CISAC.

He was in the last summit in Bruxelels – 2011.

Is it the first Jarre official event in US since Houston ?

It does seem so!

Do you also - after so many times - have a guess that Jarre may try to conquest America once again for next year? If the tour goes ahead....

CISAC - the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation that works for increased recognition and protection of the rights of creators. The Board of Directors of CISAC have unanimously recommended French electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre and Indian scriptwriter, poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar as their candidates for the Presidency and Vice-Presidency of CISAC. These recommendations have been made by the Board of Directors to the General Assembly which is scheduled to meet in Washington on June 6. This is the first time that the Board of Directors have recommended candidates to the General Assembly.

WASHINGTON, DC (June 5, 2013) – At the occasion of the World Creators Summit held today in Washington, DC, CISAC (the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers) announced the launch of LINK, a forum made up of artists from across all of CISAC’s represented creative disciplines: music, drama, literature, audio-visual and visual arts.

LINK will facilitate and enhance the communication and understanding between the creative community, collective management societies, and decision makers. As a multi-repertoire independent creators’ strategic think-tank, LINK will serve to unite the voice of creators and to ensure the flow of information between CISAC leadership, the global creative community, and ultimately policy makers whose decisions directly affect artists’ livelihood.

LINK counts a list of well known creators as its members. The first meeting included Jean Michel Jarre, Angélique Kidjo, Javed Akhtar, Rupert Hine, Bendik Hofseth, Ousmane Sow, Werner Stauffacher, Simon Darlow, Penny Grubb, and the chairs of CISAC’s International Councils of Creators: Lorenzo Ferrero, Hervé di Rosa and Yves Nilly.

“LINK federates all sectors of creators of the Arts across the continents and the two hemispheres” said Jarre. “With the positive power of the artists’ voices united, LINK aspires to find common areas of interest and create a supportive community not only across artistic disciplines but also around the globe, and raise our voices together, within our national collective organizations and our national governments.”

As a first step, LINK is issuing this signature message, and invites everyone to use it as footnote of their emails, spreading it massively:

Respect and protect the Arts & Creative works - All work has value –
Protect a sustainable economy for creators now and tomorrow

A LINK website is under development.

LINK will take initiatives to sessions that are of interest to CISAC and its communities in order to produce relevant information and produce knowledge. Some of the topics to be discussed within LINK in future sessions are:

• Communication/information actions
• Alliances with international/regional bodies
• The balance of rights / constitutional rights, such as freedom of speech vs. freedom of creation.
• Changes of law, especially in China, India, Brazil.
• The way to protect rights
• The way to look at the future - how to conceive authors’ rights in the years to come.
• BRICS strategy
• Creative industry landscape

The fourth biennial World Creators Summit continues today, June 5, in Washington DC, with over 700 delegates from the creative, policymaking, rights organizations, tech and business communities from 75 countries coming together to discuss issues around creativity and copyright in the digital age. Updates from the event are posted at www.creatorssummit.com, including video of keynotes and panels. You can also follow the conversation on Twitter at #WCS13.
