Re: Magnetic Fields - a controversial album

Hmm, that'd make sense. IIRC Rimbert did share some of JMJ's custom Roland D-50 patches with some keyboard magazine too (even though from what I remember, I didn't recognize those sounds from any JMJ tracks/renditions from the era ;))

I would like to know exactly what the various personnel ...

No.
Yes :D
That track is what a Jarre and musician amateur would compose 1h later after having access to minipops samples. And the track reminds me more of oxygène than équinoxe.
Too bad the 1st 2 tracks are great.

The worst part of that "ping pong ball sound = Magnetic Fields 1" issue is that it has led to all those bootlegs dividing PLD's tracklisting to monstrosities like "--- Magnetic Fields 1, Souvenir of China, Diva, Sylvain Durand sneezing, Magnetic Fields 2 ---". Now that's anal. ;)

Speaking of ...

It's great to read what people think of the O3 album ! We all perceive it differently.
À lot of explanation of JMJ intents with this album are given and it says a lot about the album : it doesn't stand from what one can listen to anywhere. We don't think it is a special album and it's easy to find ...

In my view the album is way too simple, almost like a demo, in need of another 1-2 months of composition, arrangement, and mixing. Quite a few others have come to the same conclusion as myself.

Analogumph you and others that have come to this conclusion
must take time and inward development ...

Yeah... I kind of want a more unbiased source than record company promotion :)
Maybe as a Journalist you could do some research at IFPI , RIAA or similar and give us then better and more reliable data than Wikipedia or Dreyfus Records ....

I have, and I can't find anything that verifies ...

At the beginning of part 20 with that crazy organ sound I think he had his Hans Zimmer and Interstellar moment.
The rest of the track is the strongest piece JMJ has ever created in centuries.
It's amazing what a few long minor chords can do to a person emotionally.

I agree : this track is really ...

Whereas he said he'll release albums in the future, I think he has done his last albums with the idea of retiring.

Electronica is JMJ showing the world what electronic music has been the last 40 years. Professor Jarre certainly...

Oxygène 3 is not closing the "Oxygene" cycle (if there is one). The ...

Yes but he once said "I will release my next album at the end of this year" !
