Absolutely love the 'vinyl' styled CDs :)
It's so nice to have a hard copy in one's hands compared to downloading files - nice blast from the past indeed :fine:

the brochure brought back some great memories with the montage of images too :D

yes quite nice!
the top part resembles a grooved vinyl, the bottom completely black.
luckily the cd-drive has no problems with reading it :P

some notes:
* the booklet/poster descibes shortly how every Rarities track was made and which instruments were used
* there are apparently multiple tapes for La Cage/Erosmachine (picture with masterdisk and premix disk)
* Deserted Palace tracks seem to have been composed in different years:
- 1970: Windswept Canyon, The Abominable Snowman, Deserted Palace
- 1971: Rain Forest Rap Session, Music Box Concerto, Iraqi Hitch-hiker
- 1972: Black Bird (Bridge Of Promises)
* instrumental version of Hypnose already composed in 1970 (single with Dominique Webb's vocals was not released until 1972)

The UK / Ireland date was never May 30th - it was always June 13th, which is why Amazon UK are not shipping until then. JarreUK confirmed the release dates a few weeks ago, and made arrangements for UK fans to get Essentials & Rarities by May 30th - the European release date.

I didn't realize anyone had told you not to have an opinion.

I just mean, it isnt necessary to complain whenever your own personal expectation or dream isnt met. Remixes tacked on to the end of a compilation? The shock, the horror!!! :-) People have too high expectations and too much information these days. It's information overload. People are actually sitting around here expecting rare 12" remixes and certain pre-Oxygene tracks that are their own faves. Where did they get the info from that this album would have rare 12" remixes? Nowhere! They dreamed it up in their head! And when FDM fails to deliver - not Jarre, but FDM! - they complain about it. And directs it towards JMJ no less, the man who is LEAST responsible for this project. Sure, he collaborated but FDM initiated it, and JMJ did not collaborate all he could because he didnt allow FDM to use tracks from post-FDM albums, as if they are not essential.

Try to base expectations on confirmed information, at least. Try it just once. I promise it wont hurt you :-)
Glenn, it is not a complaint, it is my own personal opinion that I don't like those tracks. Not once did I aim it at Jarre and say I hold him responsable for these two tracks which I still don't like going onto the album. Same basis applies to the quote given by Jarre in which the art department used in print and put onto the box art. Again, that is not aimed at Jarre but the art department and again, it goes against the grain in what Jarre says. Complaint, far from it.

Seems a mountain has been made out of a mole hill :|
