I've tried to make some TT-DR measuring from my Audacity .wav recorded Oxygéne 3 vinyl.
Bevare that my analogue connected phono tube amplifier might do some tricks with the dynamic range, so you might take it as a "best case" scenario.

As I've said, it's not really the DR that's the problem.
It's a lot of scratching and popping noises. Although I've washed them thoroughly
they never seems to be perfectly clean.

You spelled Oxygéne wrong, it's Oxygène .. sorry

I'll tell you a secret: that's why vinyl was replaced by CDs in the 80s...

I got a rip from Finaero which was really good. Has a bunch of clicks and pops throughout but nothing serious. Spend a couple of hours cleaning his rip up and it sounds really good. I think I got pretty much all of them and most haven't figured that it's a vinyl rip who have heard it.

Absolutely. I have a bunch of vinyl's from the 80's that doesn't have such loud "pops" although a bit of scrunch is totally fine by me. I think maybe I should order a second stand alone vinyl of Oxy 3, just in case this is just a coincident with my copy.

I like those pops and sniffs so much I have them all over the place in my digitally rendered tracks.

(Okay, that's just bad mixing, but still better than the Dad Waterman remasters. High-five!)

I hate them ever since I bought FGTH's Two Tribes 12". I can still hear the record skip in my mind when I listen to the 1989 CD single re-release.

I'll tell you another secret: vinyl doesn't have the same mastering issues that CD can, meaning it'll end up sounding better automatically if your digital master is brickwalled to hell.

Seriously, if CDs today were mastered like the early West Germany pressings of JMJ's stuff, then I don't think the vinyl resurgence would've been more than a novelty. Still, I think there is an authentic appeal to the sound, even with all its flaws. So I wouldn't be that dismissive of the format. Just quality of your record pressings and turntables.

Maybe it's the fancy vinyl rips I've listening to, but I still think there is more life to it on vinyl still with the way it's mastered. Anything is better than the CD really.
