Small update: I found that the previous version of this forum, hosted on 216.70.103.199, was also indexed on web.archive.org. This website stopped being indexed in 2009 when the forum migrated to zoolook.nl so I could restore 4000+ posts and almost 700 topics. There's now 92352 orphaned posts, which is 45% of the total before the Catastrophy.

You mean you just restored 4000 posts and you call that a "small update"? Or am I reading that wrong? ;)

I did some clever datbase querying to see what can be restored from the missing topics. And that might be very useful.
Look at this example:
| Jean Michel Jarre Special Radio Broadcast | 192699 | 6308 |
| Rumor of European Tour (2015) | 192701 | 6309 |
| Never-seen interview from the late 90's | 192715 | -------- |
| JMJ - Lodown Magazine Interview | 192751 | 6311 |
| Waldorf Blofeld what you like it? | 192815 | 6314 |
| Jean Michel Jarre Studio via Faze Magazin: | 192820 | -------- |
| James Last RIP | 192828 | 6316 |
| JM @ Qwartz Music Awards 2015 | 192838 | -------- |
| Pêle-Mêle, Radio Plus - 16 June 2015 | 192872 | -------- |
| Guy Delacoix & Jo Hammer | 192883 | -------- |
| Paris - La Defense Concert - 25th Anniversary | 192923 | 6320 |
| ZOOLOOK REVISITED (2016) | 192955 | 6321 |
| Zoolook Revisted Album | 192966 | 6322 |
| James Horner (film composer) passed away. | 192993 | 6323 |
This is a list of posts that have a subject in the record. I combined this with the post/topic table to see if these posts have a topic-id. If not, it will show "-------".
As you can see, you can easily fill in the missing topic-ids for these posts. This means most, if not all, topics can be restored. That's fantastic news of course, but this is only a small part of the solution: I can only get the first post of each topic this way.
Compare it to a large jigsaw puzzle. Usually you start with the edges. These first posts are the edges of the puzzle. And of course, the original poster and post time is still lost this way. But hey, it's something.

Bear in mind, this is a time-consuming process, because a human eye has to check if this is OK.

You can see topics with IDs 6312 and 6313 are not in the list, these probably are deleted topics (usually spam messages).

Small update (really, this time): I'm digging through this list of topics. It's really fun to do, a trip down memory lane. I'm working from the highest topic-ids (6839) to the lowest topic-ids (1393). I'm now at the 5000-5999 range, the year is 2013.

The amount of posts that have a post_subject (or topic-title) is now 1790. That means 1790 topics will be restored and when that's finished, I can say with certainty that all topics have been restored. Or at least 99%. This amount is an estimation, though, it can be less but not much.

That means that 1790 posts can automatically be restored too, for they are the first posts of each subject. For most of these restored posts the original creator is unknown. The thing I'm doing now is to look at the post itself and see if I can find the creator. This is time-consuming, like I stated before.

After that, there's some 800+ posts that will have the topic-title in it with a "Re: " in front of it, which means they're replies to original posts. These should be set in the same topic and can be restored too in this way.

I will not put these missing posts in the live site yet, I think I will do it when every topic and post in this process is identified. There's a John Carpenter topic I want to restore before the release of his new album so I can post about it, but I don't think I can make it in time.

I've added 337 lost topics and and 2172 corresponding posts. This took me a lot of time so this means this is a time-consuming job. I have made an import of these topics for a few reasons. First, this was a test to see if this is workable. Well... it is, but it takes a lot of time. Second, I wanted to have the John Carpenter topic up :-) Third, there were some interesting topics I would love to have online. One is a topic from 2012 from the Lalique / Aerosystem One item (Jarre at Born Designers) which has still unreleased JMJ music: https://zoolook.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?p=182733#p182733
Ánd I also could restore a handful of topics from Nico's Database topic. The database is not up anymore, but I decided to add the topics anyway.

Anyway, I will be taking a break from this for a little while. Next update will probably be next month.

We are having some DNS problems at the moment, which resulted in the forum not being accessible this morning. Right now, the domain is propagated to the naming servers again so jay! Right now, the domain is redirecting to the ip-address of this server. Servers using IP adresses as address are not allowed to use SSL-certificates, so that's why https is not working. If the redirect is shut down, zoolook.nl will work as it should be.

Random bug report: This post was made by me viewtopic.php?p=205829#p205829 but the response to it (also the post right after that one) was made by Jote... not me viewtopic.php?p=205835#p205835

Got a bit confused there for a moment ;)

A bit of a question: Is there a setting in the forum software for a sort of a "bloop" sound that plays if you're not logged in and try to access something (even if it's not really something you need to be logged in for)?

Namely, if I have two Zoolook.nl tabs open and log out in the first one, when switching over to the second one I've often heard that "bloop" either with or without an error message about "You need to be logged in".

That's from the chat functionality. You can disable sound in your profile settings, there's an mchat tab in which you can disable it.
