I haven't listened to the broadcast in a while, but it sort of sounds to me like they've overlayed the 2024 Paris Stadium version on top of The Time Machine on the album?

I was wondering why the release is shorter than the orginal broadcasted stream. I compared it but the Countdown and the speeches are edited out of the release. Besides that it's a great listen!!

I have to be honest. I absolutely hate the audio quality of this release. I don’t find it at all up to the standards it should have. This morning I canceled my Amazon pre-order and honestly, I feel good about it. The cost to bring it to Argentina was 130 euros. Maybe I’ll buy it when it’s much cheaper, but I don’t think so.
The sound quality of this album has nothing to do with an artist who released The Concerts in China in ’81, Houston-Lyon, Hong Kong, years ago.

What is wrong with the audio quality? I don’t hear anything strange. In my opinion it sounds like a decent recording.

Very dull, no clarity, audible echo. They should've mixed it with the prerecorded versions (probably no more than a week of work). Rochelle sounds much better in comparison.

Well, we did get an alternate (incomplete) mix with Geometry of Love Part 1, and some slight differences on Electronica between CD and LP, so technically we've had these. But the idea of a completely different master for some of the albums would be amazing. Hell, I'd do some genuinely terrible things to be able to get into those archives and dump it all online

Okay, I misremembered, the original concert version also had (a lot of the) instrumentals of the Paris Stadium version already in it.

In a way it's actually pretty nice that (aside from the Dadwater thump thump boosts), a lot of the original concert audio still remains and hasn't been fixed in the studio (reminds me of CPLT again, which also has this somewhat "hollow" sound to it, as if it was recorded from the middle of the audience). Will get the Blu-Ray, why not ;)

After waiting years for a JMJ Blu-Ray concert, I pre ordered this without knowing about any of the technical issues and didn't see the TV broadcast.

Just received today and I was disappointed as soon as I read the note inside about the 5.1 soundtrack being upmixed from stereo.

Out of the 3 options, PCM 2.0 sounds the cleanest to me, but lacks the LFE of DTS 5.1. Some effects sound buried in 5.1, but are more refined in 2.0. My Denon receiver makes the 2.0 sound clearer in surround mode than either of the 5.1 tracks.

The audience cheers sound like garbled YouTube quality, but the music itself sounds decent. The concert looks incredible. I can only imagine how good a discrete Atmos mix would have sounded.

It's a shame the best sounding JMJ concert is still the Forbidden City DVD.

Yeah, there are bits like the audience sounds at 8:36 or so on Rendez-Vous 2 sounding like someone had added the basic "echo" effect in Audacity at that part

After listening to the audio from Qobuz (which didn't have fade in and out!) I hear the dullness of the recording. It sounds like a radio broadcast, it misses a lot of dynamics. It is servicable, but not the quality of a regular release.
In the 90s I said: "why don't they release this-and-this radio broadcast as a live album?" and now it happens. So I'm partly to blame for this. Sorry.

Thanks for this, I'm really interested in how much the 5.1 upmix differs from the regular audio.
Guess I'll know tomorrow, the box set will arrive tonight if all goes well.

Blu-Ray sticker on cover says "Blu Ray 4K". Can you confirm that concert Blu-Ray is in 1080p?
