Best Equinoxe 4 I have heard.

WOW, that chorus is fantastic. Love the bass and sequence. Great attention to detail. Only area for improvement is organ chords and robot voice and maybe vcs3 sound.

Absolutely pisses over mine.

The last part from 11.30 is Jarre's original blended in is it not?

Hold on a minute, are you sure this hasn't got Jarre's original sitting underneath it in the mix???

The last few secondes is sampled from the original Equinoxe 4, mixed with my cover, because the cover is unfinished !!!
But I promise to make the last few effect when it's possible !!

Yes the organ sound is pretty cheap....i have to work on it also on VCS3 sound, too agressive i think.
I 've recently try an emulation of VC3, a good one, and i'm spying photo and video of Marigny concert to look at the VCS on the left of the ARP. The settings really remember me the sound on Equinoxe. You know what i mean ?

Thanks for the congrats Matt !

That's good work man. :fine:
Which emu are you using?

Also I gotta ask you how did you do that swirling sound, it starts at 8:42 in your mix.
Without faith nothing is possible. With it, nothing is impossible.

No problem Beeloo,

Seriously, if that has not got JMJ original underneath it, it is by far the best Equi 4 cover I have heard.

Absolutely!

THAT'S how good it is my friend - FANTASTIC.

The timing of the chorus plucks is spot - on. I never seem to be able to get mine right - is there some timing shift at work somewhere?

I not sure to understand the question (bad english sorry....)

Are you talking about the way the chorus is beeing played ? Or the sound of the Chorus ?

If it's the sound, it's the ONLY instrument in the tracks that comes from real Eminent ; it's a SoundFont bank, loaded in NNXT in Reason. Few settings, few chorus effect, EQ, et voila

In my tries to do my best, i've never been satisfied of my own sound for eminent plucks in Equinoxe 4, i decided to use sample from orginal Eminent.

Ok ; no time shifting on the track.

The chorus is a "triplet" part. So the timing doesn't match with the other instrument.

I don't know if you had music lessons or not, so i try to explain myself as clearly has possible.

Imagine the rythm of Oxygene 2-4-6....in a standard 4:4 rhythm such as Equinoxe.
The result is a kind of groove because the way it's beeing plays braeks with the overall rhythm of the tracks.

Better, think about the bass of Oxygene 2 (with echo)

toom________tooo toom________too toom________too toom________too toom.......

In your head, think about putting it on the rhythm of Equinoxe ; you did it, you're ready to the triplet chorus. And if you use a sequencer, think about unable quantification, or record it to 16T, or 8T. You'll see the difference.

I think Matt knows what a triplet is, still it's not easy to play in time, there's something to it that's not exactly in time...

:punch: Yep i think so !!! Sorry Matt !!

To help you : first set the left echo of the plucks. Once done, play the following chords
and, each chords have to match with the echoed chord. Your time reference when you play the Plucks is the echo, not the time signature.

Bb___Bb___Bb____
G____G____G____A_____A_____A
_______________F_____F______F_____G____G____G
_________________________________E____E____E____F____F____F
_______________________________________________D____D____D

When you'll stop playing, the end of echo will continue playing your chords in rythm (one chords match with the other one in the echo).

If there's an offset in the echo between 2 chords, you're not in time. You have to judge yourself if the offset is important or not. A slight difference makes a bit groovy, how to explain...huu.....makes the track alive you see....

Yes, I fully understand the theory - thanks nevertheless.

As GeeJee says, there is something tricky about the feel of the timing that I have difficulty grasping. Perhaps it's just a characteristic of the original sound's attack ? Or just the exact manner and 'groove' Jarre was 'in' when recording.

The best example is the china version Equinoxe 4, we don't hear echo.

I supposed we can hear some interesting sounds in Aero version when splitting each voices.
