The World Air League is the organizer for a monumental airship race around the globe that will be held between September 2023 and May 2024.

The upcoming World Sky Race® will launch in September 2023 when the competing airships cross the Prime Meridian heading east over Greenwich, London, and will end eight months later in Paris in May 2024, after the competitors have circumnavigated the globe. During the eight-month race, the airships will be flying over 130+ UNESCO World Heritage Sites and cities. Hopefully this flying caravan will inspire people worldwide to the green transportation opportunities represented by modern airships. The following map shows the proposed route.

Ok, The project that never give up...and another postponement to 2024...

Bruce Dinckson(Iron Maden) is the newest member of the World Air League Advisory Directors, Bruce joins Bertrand Piccard, Kathryn Sullivan, Erik Lindbergh, Sylvia Earle, Zahi Hawass, Mary Ellen Weber and Jean-Michel Jarre. (https://www.worldskyrace.com/advisorycouncil.html) His new role includes being the face of the United Kingdom Airship Team forming to compete in the World Sky Race.

The World Sky Race Sept 2024 – May 2025 will produce a competitive global aerial tournament, challenging airships from around the world to race around the world in a series of 16 fixed course legs. Each leg will begin and finish at a Summit City. Starting on London’s Greenwich Prime Meridian, the Race tour will circumnavigate the globe and end by crossing the French Prime Meridian at the Versailles Palace. Included on the route are Big Ben, Roman Coliseum, Great Pyramids, Taj Mahal, Mt. Fuji, Golden Gate Bridge, Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower. Representing nations and fans, these aerial gladiators in their gigantic flying machines will joust for global glory and the $5 million World Sky Race Prize.

Again, now it has been postponed until ... Starting in London September 2027, the World Sky Race will circumnavigate the globe, moving eastward, until reaching the final Sky Round-Up in Paris May 2028. The cumulative best in time Sky Cups winner gets $5,000,000..

The biggest challenge with this venture, announced in 2009, was finance and funding.

Its organizer, Don Hartsell—Race Commissioner, Managing Director, and Explorers Club member—has been searching the world for sponsorship and support.

Besides J.M. Jarre, other artists such as Bruce Dickinson of IRON MADEN, Afro-astronaut Dr. Sian Proctor, and even Prince Albert II of Monaco have recently joined this project.

The institution's website is still up and running and updates information monthly.

Whether it will happen or not...only time will tell...we'll wait...Jarre still appears linked to the project...

It seems like it will never happen...but they have already managed to resolve the issue of the prize pool for this race. There is already a company taking care of storing the prize.

The World Air League is proud to announce its collaboration with AIC Title Service. AIC will be the escrow agent for the $5,000,000 World Sky Race Prize. AIC Title Service is one of the most trusted aviation title and escrow service providers in the country. This financial structure will enable and facilitate raising the World Sky Race Prize. Protecting the funding partners and sponsors of the World Sky Race, the Prize monies will be held in escrow, safeguarded by AIC, until the Race Champion claims their crown and trophy.

“A big part of what we do at AIC is providing independent escrows,” said Bruce Marshall, Vice President and General Counsel of AIC. "We act as an independent party and hold funds. We hold deposits on aircraft transactions, while they're pending closing.

Now we have another postponement:

The World Sky Race 2028–2029 will be a 17-race global series of airship rallies circling the planet and flying over the homes of more than two billion people. The winner will claim the $5,000,000 prize—secured and safeguarded by AIC Title Service
