Jean-Michel Jarre est lui-même un accident de l'Histoire...de la musique. Combien avons-nous souffert de ses nappes de synthétiseurs dans les années 80. Quel supplice! Maintenant, grâce à ses horreurs, il peut évoluer dans le milieu de la jet-set et jouer au vieux beau. Quand on a aussi peu de rapport avec la culture, on n'est pas habilité à parler d'exception culturelle.

Robi, there is no reason to take JMJ's commitment to a more equitable exploitation of intellectual property, into the ridiculous draw. Or torpedo this. Maybe you do not have his opinions, but of mine from, you can continue prophecy his artistic downfall. (You will never achieve this. What he did create, will always be there) He has not signed contract to produce constantly music for our pleasure .He alone is the director of his life. No one else (except maybe a higher devine) . It is quite remarkable, laudable that he defended his interests (and the legitimate interests of all artists) publicly. It is important more than ever to find a solution for it. Otherwise we might soon must to dispense to many creative creations. I'm proud of him, because he will not places his legs high, sitting lazy in front of TV- set at home, drinking beer like many of his contemporaries, but he devoted himself actively to other important tasks. Certainly quite different than these jealous stupid people, which hide on the internet cowardly anonymously and insult him. He is intelligent and will not be distracted by those stupid comments.

By the way: Most of my friends, family members and friends are not on Facebook (or have left Facebook), but still some fans of his music. Many fans do not look at his Facebook page, because they are filled only by fans, always with the same contents and love letters. The number of mostly female followers there are not representative and do not indicate the number of his fans all over the world.

I am his fan on Facebook but I sure do not do repeats and yes sometimes I send him hearts etc with my posts. The large majority of fans come for new info and mostly based upon JMJ's own official postings. Reading the comments......what about the credibility of the man in France? Everyone laughs at him? "He - JMJ - would deserve the spanking..." and more like this.

Honestly. What has he been doing wrong getting much of bad opinion?

My thoughts - in disorder:
1) Most of the frenchmen selling millions in various styles have bad reputation in a part of the intellectual scene (this spanks from Claude François to Johnny Hallyday, Mireille Mathieu, Richard Clayderman, and even earlier Tino Rossi, which was laughed upon by Pierre Desproges), because making money in France to these people is somehow very offending.
2) French people think or try to think he used his private life to make money and used the name of his father to get easier success.
3) Some people were annoyed by the amount of giant concerts in Paris, 1990,1995,1998 and the money spent in the concerts. There were slight critics on the environmental impact on some of those concerts.
4) Some political positions (conservative) Jarre took costing him a part of the audience
5) And men's Jealousy about his good-looking face and body throughout the years...

This is not a negative post, just a sum-up of all I've been reading in the past 15 years.

I remember hiram33's site once mentioning that the last time Jarre was even vaguely successful in France was when Oxygene 7-13 was released and even then some of the tour venues were cancelled - thus making Chronologie his "last true hit" in France.

Come to think of it, I remember reading on these forums that on some talk show in the early 1990s, Didier Marouani made a quip like how the Jarre gigs cost a lot of money and the audience booed at him! Would be interesting to see a clip of this occurence (if true).

(Then again, that guy is only really popular in Russia and even then they chose Jarre for the 1997 Moscow celebration concert instead of him. I actually like a lot of his music but I wonder if he really let his jealousy shine through like that...)

At any rate, it was a great era when Jarre's work with UNESCO resulted in gigs like CPLT and even the revised Eldorado single (tho' I'll always prefer the 1991 Images version). A shame that no one can really make a gig like that based on this legal creator's rights stuff he's currently involved in...

But let's remember that no matter what, Jarre himself is aware that he's not seen as "cool" (and never has been) or anything like that and he has never let that stop him in his projects. So good for him (even though I'd also like it to be good for us >_>)!

Yes, that statement from Marouani is right, but the man suffered from Jarre being successful, both in writing songs and synth albums.
