In Le Mans, the assembly of the sound dome that will welcome Jean-Michel Jarre has begun

Place des Jacobins in Le Mans, the assembly of the world-only immersive dome of the sound biennial has begun. This 600-seat structure will host between January 20 and 28, 2024 many events in Le Mans Sonore, including a master-class by Jean-Michel Jarre.

This Thursday, January 4 in Le Mans, it is possible to observe the beginning of a fascinating construction game: that of the immersive dome that will soon host several events of the Le Mans Sonore sound biennial. Described as a "world premiere" by the city of Le Mans, this 600-seat structure faces Saint-Julien Cathedral. The dome is to host part of the many events scheduled between January 20 and 28, including the long-awaited master-class of the festival's sponsor, electronic music legend Jean-Michel Jarre.

Sound cinema

All tickets are sold for Jean-Michel Jarre's performance but the festival offers other opportunities to discover the dome. The structure will thus serve as a setting for the "sound cinema" of Radio France, the radio group of which France Bleu Maine is a part.

Le Mans Sonore 2024 is unveiled:
- a world first: a sound dome with immersive 3D sound that can accommodate 600 spectators for unprecedented concerts.
- an internationally renowned godfather: Jean-Michel Jarre.
- more than 100 appointments from 20 January to 28 January 2024.

It bothers me that structure only lasts a few weeks if it is the case… Can't it be recycled for other concerts? Your thoughts?

Exactly! I was thinking the same. It should be designed and built in a way that allows it to be deconstructed and rebuilt quickly, so it can become a pop-up travelling show in different towns and cities. Like the Europe in Concert stage set, but an indoor, mini-flat-pack IKEA version

Also, I see Jeff Mills is second on the bill. Fantastic! I don't image there will be a 'live' collaboration of The Architect but great that they are performing at the same show.

For its third biennial dedicated to sound, the City of Le Mans (Sarthe) is investing in an acoustic dome to offer spatialized and immersive sound experiences. A first that convinced musician Jean-Michel Jarre to share his creative knowledge with a very small audience.

Sound is the DNA of Jean-Michel Jarre, an essential artist on the world electroacoustic scene. The musician has agreed to become the godfather of the third edition of the Le Mans sonore biennial.

LE MANS SONORE: PUMP UP THE VOLUME*

For its 3rd edition, the international biennial turns up the sound.
For 2024, Le Mans Sonore has therefore offered itself an exceptional godfather with global fame. Jean-Michel Jarre, pope of electroacoustic music, who has sold more than 60 million of his albums worldwide, including the mythical Oxygene (1976).

This Saturday, January 20, 2024, JMJ will inaugurate a sound room specially created for this edition, with a masterclass around his latest composition, Oxymore ("A sound revolution", according to Technikart magazine)

To listen to this album composed and produced in multichannel mode, this dome, unique in the world, is the perfect equipment, providing a totally immersive sound. Installed on Place des Jacobins, 10 meters high, this wooden frame bubble (demountable and capable of accomodating up to 600 people) will also offer shows, sound performances and public visits, during Radio France's day broadcasts.
