Well as threads go it is a bit depressing but on the other hand it makes one think of what JMJ is and will be remembered for now and 2048 :!:

I think Jarre's music will never be 'popular' so to speak. So in my opinion his legacy will break down as follows:

The World
The one-off spectacular shows. That's what he is in the record books for and that's what most printed pictures consist of.

The Music Industry
His innovation in electronic music.

France
His love life.

I think he will be just as known as he is now. The one who made Oxygene. I don't hope he will get more famous like a pop-icon.

On the one side I want him to get him more popularity, but he doesn't have to be like for example Robbie Williams of Michael Jackson.

He has a great popularity, but somehow if some music gets too famoues, I starts to dislike it, it's like what is unique about is disappears. Just a personal oppinion 8)

If Jarre's Music ever became Mainstream,I doubt somehow you would disregard it because of it's popularity...Jarre Wouldn't become any less Unique for it,Infact it would be good for Jarre to become more mainstream,no matter how you see it the fact that No-one has ever imitated his style and become succesful for it or been in the same bracket as he has for his entire Career would suggest that He's Unique anyway,Bringin him into the forefront wouldn't take that tag away from him..

Would you refuse to go to a concert on the basis that 6 Million fans decided to turn up,instead of the Usual 2 Mill

I've been Listening to Jarre for over 25 years,Not once Have i ever thought if he became more Popular would I stop listening,If thats the case then you don't fully appreciatte its full impact..

Infact I do my bit to Promote it!!!I would like to see Jarre recognised for his contributions,be him No.1 In the charts or not,Music like this isn't throwaway music of today,Its something that will live on long after Jarre Decides to retire, and it will still sound as Fresh today as the day it was composed..

Thats like saying you enjoy a vintage wine then just because that wine becomes popular and more people start to drink it you start to dislike it..That would be hipocracy in that you never fully liked the taste anyway.

It has nothing to do about that JMJ can get 3,5 million spectators for a show. I have often liked some bands and so on which became too mainstream so I started not to like it. I don't think I can explane it 100% as I don't know precisely is what is making me dislike it.
Because one of my classmates started listening to a track "Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You" and others started singing the vocals, this track lost some of the details I think makes the track nice.
Maybe I just connect famous music with bad music and therefore Im affraid of thinking the same about music I like. I don't think I can explene it precisely and no one can change this. I don't like playing music on places I don't like. This has something to do about conencting music with things, so when I listen to the music, I am forced to think about those things I don't like. hmm  I may be weird on some points but that's my personality

I'm not talking about increasing Jarre Attendance figures It was a generalisation,in that more people turn up so in effect that makes him more Popular and therefore he becomes less appealing to you just because he suddenly has an Upsurge..

I can relate to what your saying In some respects, mainly as i have a very limited "Favourites" List in that I have a large collection of Albums, but mostly from a small group of artists,I don't go for Popular throwaway artist but more Interesting and innovative people,I like a lot of music, but the music I enjoy listening to is a small number of artists,I don't really go for the Fashionable Artists.

Because one of my classmates started listening to a track "Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You" and others started singing the vocals, this track lost some of the details I think makes the track nice.
Nothing wrong with People liking something you already liked,I think to be honest you have a selective personality and don't like to have a shared interest,or perhaps a envious nature,do you ever try to influence your friends into Jarre or is that again something that you would prefer to keep to yourself??

Maybe I just connect famous music with bad music and therefore Im affraid of thinking the same about music

Why...there are a lot of People who have heard Oxygene 4,is that Bad!!!!14 Million Album sales of Oxygene, quite a large number of units sold infact compared to many artists,Probably a great unique Album, not at all Bad is it!!!

I don't like playing music on places I don't like. This has something to do about conencting music with things, so when I listen to the music, I am forced to think about those things I don't like. hmm I may be weird on some points but that's my personality

Music has that emotive Appeal,I know i associatte music with certain places, both Good and bad Experiences,as you grow older you learn to deal with the bad ones and realise that no matter how you associatte them its part of you life, and no matter how traumatic thigns can be you'll become stronger for recognising the cruxes as well as the pleasurable times

Oxygene for me has both good and bad experiences, for one it helped me through my troubled teenage years and also I felt down for a long time but at the same time Probably became a better person as Oxygene gave me Escapism and still does although listening to it now recalls those bad emotions, again I know that I could listen to the album and also slip away from all the troubles
so it holds good and Bad Memories, but again when i listen to it,I can understand how i felt back then and also how my life is now and how priviliged I am to be in this position now,so having bad associations is not just about disliking the Music because of it it can be a good thing in the Long run if it helps you deal with yourself...

I think you are right that I somehow, don't like to share my interest of the music, but it's something else with people on this forums for instance, because here it's nice to meet other people with the same interests. I don't really know anybody who listen to the same genres as I. People here around are so mainstream. I only know a few who listen to some sort of electronic music like dance and trance, but not really other non mainstream electronic music genres.

JMJ has entered different hit charts, but it's so long time ago, that generally nobody in my age really know about the music. In here, we are listening to music that is 30 years old, in the mainstream culture this is not in so nobody really take tracks like these to themselves. Today it's probably just hard to break through like for instance The Beatles and Abba did. Everything is just passin through and is forgotten a year after. ofcourse I know people who are not doing the bandwagon style, they just listen to another genres
Some times, being a hardcore electronic music listener is connected to the interest of synthesizers (I can be wrong here). I only know a few people who are really laying instruments, and these are not the mainstreamers.
I don't know what would had happened, if I was born when Oxygene 4 came out, probably nothing different.

Can you imagine that JMJ said this :

""All DJs would agree with me - the analogue equipment and quality is the best."

It is from : http://www.musicomh.com/interviews/jean ... -jarre.htm

But then why he changed his instrumentarium?
 :o
