BlahBlahCafe - Jean-Michel Jarre forum

I've got family in other parts of the UK so I'll look in their local HMV/Virgin and report back. However I think I can safely say that there has definately been a spate of ordering going on in the major London retailers. I regularly pop in and have never seen so much choice!

I wonder if it has anything to do with the club scene and the chill-out scene which is hitting the UK. After all, Jarre is one of the original gaellic chill-out artists (from a certain point of view at least).

The way I see it, HMV/Virgin et al. wouldn't order if there wasn't demand so someone must be buying it! And Dreyfus wouldn't release on itunes if they didn't think it would make them a bit of cash...

Historically most British crazes seem to kick off in London (er, except Merseybeat and Northern Soul!) so if something is starting here it may well start to sweep around the nation.

I'm doing my bit for Jarre's music by getting 'Velvet Road' playlisted on 'Chill' digital radio. I'll keep you posted on this one...

I've heard this too! I remember having a French penfriend in the early 90's who wrote 'Jarre? He is for the old people!'. It's sad really but Jarre's bigger then France - he's a European artist!

There are many reasons for this. Look - I don't believe an artist is always loved troughout an entire country, even if he's very succesfull and a pride of the nation. It's a matter of taste on the other hand too, although very varying, it's a very particular genre that has to catch you - or not...

Yes, I absolutely don't like Frans bouwer etc. But he is the "pride" of our country.

My local HMV here in Truro only ever seems to have Aero,the independent music store at the other end of town have actually stopped selling JMJ altogether,mind you back in 2000 they had never heard of Metamorphoses,but went round the corner to Woolworths and there it was!
