Do you really have to buy the box set or vinyl edition to get access to the wav 5.1 files?
Is there any way around this?

Officially, yes it's the only option. Unofficially, well...

Ok, so Switch On Leon and the new version of Zoolookologie are really awesome in 5.1 and the rest are more or less pointless.
In comparison Aero and Oxygene 5.1 from 2007 were much cooler, not to mention i.e. M. Oldfield's 5.1 mixes.

Jarre promising all future releases being in 5.1 and stopping after Teo and Tea stings. Oxygene 3 and Equinoxe Infinity would've been awesome. I do understand why Electronica wasn't in surround sound, but it would've still been great if he retroactively did so like with Planet Jarrem, but a bunch more tracks.

Ok so it's been a long time since Planet Jarre was released. Our vinyl copy has been sitting on a shelf all this time yet to be played. BUT we are interested in the 5.1 - so my question is where do you find the code to download these files ? We can't find one in the vinyl collection. Nothing mentioned in the emails bought via amazon.
Thanks for any help.

There should be a download card in your box with a code you can redeem at the website printed on that same card. Check the inner sleeves too.

Thanks Dr Jones. We were looking for the see-through code card with no luck.
I must have found this at the time but I have no idea where I put the code card since. I had forgotten I must have downloaded them already. Just managed to locate the files somewhere on our server but never got around to importing them to my listening app.
Ditsy.
All OK now, cheers.

Audacity says 6 channels (I only tested "Circus")

OK, thanks. I'm not used to opening a multichannel file with Audacity.
But actually from an auditory point of view, I hear the bass at a very low level.
Already the overall mix is low.
Is it a bad mix?

Fun fact. Since:
1. the mix volume is low
2. these 5.1 mixes are upmixes
then
One can take front left and front right channels, compile a 2-channel FLAC/WAV and enjoy those tracks as regular stereo on regular stereo equipment - i.e. this way one gets a normal album version without the over-the-top loud mastering.

I understand what you mean but in this case, more frequencies are loosed.
The 5.1 mix of NYE VR concert, for example keeps all the spectre without the Subwoofer Channel if I undertand but all the frequencies are here.
When I listen 5.1 mixes of PlanetJarre in comparison of the stereo normal tracks, there is an imbalance, a lack of something.

I just downmixed it stereo and listen to those tracks on their own. They sound to much better than the CD. Curious how the LP's sound.
