The sound he played on the Nord lead is different to the actual RMI sound on the track, you can actually hear him playing the sound over the top on a few of the recordings of the concerts,so its definetly overdubbed,I think you can hear it more prominent on the full Moscow concert as you can also hear him playing the Eminent strings over the top as well on the first pass

As for replicating it exact today....well it depends on if he recorded the settings at the time of the actual recording,or more still has those patch charts or info to this day, during the recent tour, the sounds weren't 100% accurate even on the actual RMI in comparison to the original recordings, but this could be down to the instability of the instruments, those types of synths even replicating the same settings can have differences in timbre,so 30 years on theres bound to be discrepancies.

The thing is you have to disgard any preconceptions of how it should sound compared to the original When replicating, analogs have many flaws that make them unique in ways digital replications can't compensate for and much of that is that the sounds can be different even in the same edited state

Yeah I agree, the lead on the Oxygene tour sounds much closer to what people are doing in their covers. And I have to say, it sounds like vanilla.
That's why I think it might be a combo of two sounds, a bellish type sound and a lead, using both generators.

The interesting thing I think, is that he doesn't change the left harmonic generator on the 30th Anniv DVD until the very end, using it for the O6 lead.
It was in one position throughout, he only used the right generator. Whereas it's the opposite on O6.

Aren't we talking about a digital synth here? :punch: :P

The lead is kinda close. Can you do something about the mid freq to cut out a bit of that square wave character out of the lead to leave it overall feeling more sharp and prickly.

I do love though the water + phasing strings at the end as well.

Some excellent covers there, love your Equinoxe 5.

At last a decent RV4 cover too... although the drums need to be more prominent and less mini-pops, and I don't personally like fade-out endings. But otherwise, really good :-)

Oxygene 2 - perfect!

Hope that's kind of constructive feedback. Do some more, they're great :-)

Chronologie 4 perhaps? :-)

Thanks for the feedback.

They are all done in one shot so some elements are missing and yes, the fade out is naff but it's all I could think of doing as I recorded.
Eqinoxe 5 I'm not too happy with. It's a little messy at the begining and needs some overdubbs to get it sounding right. When I re-instate my audio multi-tracking I'll produce a fuller version.

I shall begin work on Chronologie 4 as you request.

Can't wait for your Chronologie 4. With regards to Equinoxe 5 the only fault is a bit too much humm noise and the thunder effect is a bit loud and high pitch. But otherwise spot-on. Could I also request and Equinoxe 5 - Equinoxe 6 - Equinoxe 7(1st part) cover? lol

I have those parts - through to the end of 7, as one complete sequence. It's mixing it as the whole thing plays that is so difficult to keep on top of which is why I have refrained so far through fear of making an unpresentable mess.

I notice you favour ( as do others ) the La Defense versions. I much prefer the textures of original tracks ( excluding mf2 ) .

I liked to know peoples thoughts on my covers being presented live. Is there a big enough interest these days?

Chronologie 4 . . . . one of my all time fav modern Jarre tracks.
Jarre concerts attended - Destination Docklands 1988 - Paris La Defense 1990 - Europe In Concert 1993 (Manchester & London) - Oxygene Tour 1997 (Birmingham)

"A group of men and woman entered the laboratory one month ago to live in a smell free world. Body odour, sweaty arms pits and smelly feet are to create the energy to survive. A total mystery surrounds this experiment, and it's project code name: B.O and Smell'i "

Hey, these covers by Matt are great.

First time Ive come across them.

His later postings are even better I think, especially his Equinoxe 5 versions. He holds the whole lot in hardware sequencer data in his vintage AKAI and just records the lot in one go so in essence, a completely live performance.

Best Oxygene 4 RMI solo to date. Oxygene 2 cover is sublime and very authentic. Well done Matt.

matt222 wrote:Yes, and I'm not really satisfied with it yet.
I did it on the JP8000 and added a bit of white noise from one oscillator to give it some 'breath'. It's the exact notation that is tricky as it was played extremely freely. It also has some sort of trill or vibrato over certain notes.

When disecting songs I like to switch from cd to old, original cassettes and live versions - anything different that might have a slightly different mix that may illuminate certain elements better, but that flute is buried - even on Aero.
I agree. that Mellotron flute buried on the right is very difficult to understand what is playing.
I discovered it myself last week while recreating the song.

Are you all sure the "fluty" sound on the left is ARP2600 Square?
I made it in Omnisphere with an ARP2600 Sine soundsource.
Honestly I'm not full satisfied with mine because I find it a bit flubby and missing some punch...
I will retry with Square soundsource, maybe that's the problem.

This Matt's replica is so fuc***ng good!! :)
My compliments
