Beyond cinema with Jean-Michel Jarre
At the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF), the motto is "Beyond Cinema" - beyond cinema. Going beyond this is also what could characterize the career of Jean Michel Jarre, a great guest of this 29th edition.
The artist comes to present a world premiere of a work in virtual reality, called "The eye and I". A journey into the world of surveillance and control. VR, or virtual reality, a technology that allows new immersive forms of storytelling at the crossroads of film and video games.
This Wednesday evening on the BFM stage, Jean-Michel Jarre received the Film & Beyond Award as part of the digital night of the Geneva Digital Market, the professional component of GIFF. During his speech, the artist came back what makes VR an essential tool in contemporary audiovisual creation.

“Surveillance: a issue rooted in our culture” - Hsin-Chien Huang (THE EYE & I)
Presented at South by Southwest 2023 (first chapter) and with a world premiere at GIFF 2023 in Geneva, Hsin-Chien Huang's latest immersive VR experience - and first collaboration with Jean-Michel Jarre - is a disturbing yet incredibly fascinating reflection on the theme of surveillance in its various manifestations.
