Financed by Le Mans Métropole for €750,000, the structure, made up of 765 wooden triangles, is equipped with three crowns of enclosures.
Incredible investment in culture by the French state. A regional government prepared to spend that amount on such a niche project is remarkable. This simply would not happen in the UK.

Exclusive - Jean-Michel Jarre - Composer Jean-Michel Jarre, sponsor of the sound biennial "Le Mans sonore" inaugurated the Dôme sonore, sold out on the Place des Jacobins with Thomas Dutronc and Stéphane Le Foll and presented his latest creation, " Oxymore" in Le Mans on Saturday, January 20, 2024. "Happy and honored", the artist confided, a few minutes before the event, returning to the importance of this "immersive" dome. "For centuries, our relationship to music has been frontal," he recalled. "We have a 2D relationship with music, which is quite paradoxical since our relationship to sound in everyday life is an immersive relationship, at 360 degrees. "This wooden structure, assembled in a week, on the Place des Jacobins, in Le Mans allows exceptional sound immersion. In the half-sphere with a height of 9 meters and a diameter of 20 meters, which can accommodate up to 600 people standing, concerts (of Meule and Molécule) as well as Radio France's sound cinema will take place until January 28.
In Le Mans, the sound dome "Jean-Michel Jarre" settles for good at the Itemm...
Currently under construction at the Itemm, where it is permanently installed, the sound dome of Le Mans will be named after Jean-Michel Jarre at the next biennial of sound, in January 2026.
