I've been aware of Pet Shop Boys music as my brother used to listen to them alot.

This song is a great fusion of the melancholic lyrics of Neil Tennant and the synthy Jarre-esque leads.

It's a typical PSB song. The middle-8 (the bridge between the 2nd refrain and 3rd refrain) which has the "brick-brick-brick-brick-brick England" part has a typical JMJ chord progression we can also hear in Oxygene 8 and the last part of Magnetic Fields.

I can hear a lot of Ind. Rev PT2 in it.

Really? Because of that lead sound in the chorus? To me it's more like "Final Countdown" than IR2

This psb track is already one of my fave, love the catchy chorus with the lead playing, works so well together, 6th may can't come quick enough, I'm also going to Dublin to see him live in October and really hope he plays this track.

Given JmJ's observation during Docklands Concert the changing face of England,
Im fairly sure JmJ requested PSB to write these relevant lyrics
or perhaps JmJ wrote these 9 lines himself given lyrics JmJ wrote for Christophe.

I wouldn't say that. The whole Actually album deals about Thatcherism (the song Shopping is about buying and selling our history by large corporations), Fundamental is politically loaded, the song Twenty Something on Super deals with the issues Opportunities talks about (" That’s how you are / or have to be / in a decadent city / at a time of greed".

Not me anymore, I cancelled my preorder.
