Sorry to necro a thread, but this seems to be the only one for PJ.

I went for my daily walk today and decided to listen to PJ from Apple Music, only to find that 4 tracks aren't available in my region (USA). Weren't they all available at some point? Disappointing, so I figured I'll just buy it on qoboz....but no, those tracks aren't available, nor Spotify, nor HD Tracks.

So I can get the CD on Amazon fine, but if I'm going to buy something, I might as well get the 24/48 tracks, but they were only released with the vinyl box? Why, Sony?

Are there any legit places to get the 24/48 download of PJ? Thanks.

1. The missing tracks are likely Rendez-Vous 1, Rendez-Vous 2, Rendez-Vous 4 and Last Rendez-Vous. For some odd reason all Rendez-Vous tracks (including the entire album and compilations) disappeared from streaming services in September. Nobody knows why. Probably some rights issue. F*** streaming.

2. 48/24 (or any "hi-res audio") is a scam/snake-oil. 44/16 is perfectly fine for what your ears will be able to pick up. This notwithstanding, often there is simply NO EXTRA resolution in these files - the actual bit depth is still 16 (especially with present day loudness war mastering).

3. To my greatest surprise, the digital downloads STILL WORK after 6 years. I just checked my code. But as I said - you don't need them if you have the CDs. Can't vouch for the legitimacy on that Amazon listing though (not because I have suspicions or sth, I just don't have a way to tell)

Anyway, you can just buy the lossless versions on Qobuz/HDTracks and I'll hook you up with the ones that are missing.

Here's what's missing on the US version of iTunes and Qobuz:

Oxygene 1
First RDV
Equinoxe 2
Oxygene 4
Fourth RDV

I'll just buy the CD from Amazon.

Because good lord, the Music for Supermarkets is audibly clipped beyond repair on those releases. Well, maybe the cassette is less loud, but... Like... Come on... Cassette :')

All my early JMJ listening, from 1988's Revolutions onwards was on cassette. Because of this, I was soooo tempted to buy Planet Jarre on cassette, just for fun. I no longer have a cassette player, and have no intention of buying one either. Back in the early 1990s, I had an Aiwa portable cassette player, and I tried to customise it in the style of the LAG Insecte from Dockland, trying to give it a battered, “futuristic archaeology” look. I even added "J.M Jarre J'aime!" in a graffiti style, inspired by that customised skirt worn by the fan at the start of the Rendezvous Lyon VHS

It was only in 2001, when there was a bunch of re-issues (I think?) did I buy his entire back catalogue on CD (from Oxygene to Metamorphoses) all in one go and it cost me a fortune. The office where I worked at that time had just got a bunch of iMacs so I ripped them all and added the MP3s to my iTunes library. This was all so high tech! I still listen to those same MP3s today.

Also, at one point I noticed that on Spotify (at least), Oxygene 4 on the Docklands album (Jarre Live) suddenly defaulted to the Planet Jarre version for some reason. In most instances, the first second or two of the Jarre Live version would play and then switch to the Planet Jarre version.

(I can't remember anymore if it then continued to the other Jarre Live tracks or whatever was next on Planet Jarre)

Yet another great win for the cancer that is streaming services and people insisting on using them, because "mah convenience"

Streaming isn't terrible per se, it works just fine and it is super convenient and that's great. But good lord, the fact that companies keep switching releases rather than just keeping it as is it just so bloody annoying.

Also it's destroying the music industry (as if it wasn't bad enough already) and people's engagement with artists, but short-term convenience is more important. Sigh. I swear to god, I feel like everything should be regulated these days, otherwise we'll just murder our civilization.

I got Planet Jarre in cassette. Haven't played it though on my 80s ghetto blaster.

1997 I had this portable blue Aiwa cassette player.
