"A tribute to electronic music": Jean-Michel Jarre on his album 'Oxymore'
The album 'Oxymore' has immersive sound, which Jean-Michel Jarre compared to the experience offered by cinema.
Jean-Michel Jarre, French composer, performer and record producer, went through the microphones of Sigue La W to talk about his album 'Oxymore' and how he has become a benchmark for electronic music in the world.
"Since the album 'Oxygene' I have always been interested in the relationship of music and space, what I seek to investigate is not how you are in front of the sound but, inside it," he explained.
He also explained the influence of classical music and jazz on his work, present in many films.
"This new album answers the question: it is the first one that is made in multichannel, immersive sound. Music is inspired by the sounds of cinema," he said.
In the same way, he mentioned that to enjoy his music to the fullest it is not necessary to have state-of-the-art technology or the most expensive, you only need a cell phone or a computer.
"No particular equipment is needed. What you can hear by playing it on your cell phone is a stereo version. There are many ways to listen to it like home theaters, that can help," he said.
"Connected to a PC or a cell phone you can have the immersive experience we want to give," he added.
On the other hand, he said that this new album is a tribute to Wendy Carlos' music and electronics: "what he achieved connected many sounds to connect."
Finally, he stressed that the important thing about his music is the final result: "when making electronic music we seek to make it very sensual, either by mixing effects.
