Yeah, my bad.
And yeah, I didn't expect anything else, it sounded exactly like Welcome to the Other Side and it was only half an hour and one person playing. It was pure for exposure and probably as a thank you for the Legion D'Honeur. At least the visuals were good.
Well, I *DID* expect miming (I always do), although not of such poor quality :>

Thing is when a person gets to the status of JmJ
then the people around him very likely won't say to him :
improve this, change this, don't do this, stop doing this.

It takes a person of courage, artistic sensitivity,
diverse range of musical tastes as diverse as JmJ,
as well as to care for JmJ to say such things to him.

"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day."
Dylan Thomas.

I'm all for JmJ raving at the "close of day"

Dear JmJ just incorporating such a concept into your One man show JmJ
This way miming becomes" invisible".

Improvements for a One man show:
*looking into how graphical effects can easily be interwoven into the architecture
via software controlled digital lighting strips wound around pillars, placed around doors windows,
over brickwork covering much of the facade of the building.
This continues evolves Cities in Concert concept of projections onto buildings
in a much smaller scale for a One man show.

*Wearing a suit and gloves that enables graphical effects to be on the suit and gloves

* Fitting transparent perspex over keyboards then graphical digital lighting strips on the perspex.

This way you JmJ, the backdrop, the keyboards blend into One.

*Launching an Augmented Reality app.
So that audience get an AR expriecne of the One man show.

If it is a small audience, giving them cardboard AR headset to fit their phone into
when they arrive for concert.
If it is a large audience, providing instructions to make their own cardboard AR headset
when they buy tickets
and reminder week/s before concert for the audience.

As with the Notre Dame thing, I was cringing hard at this DJ set. Think it’s time to move on from the Electronica era.

I remember cringing at the Aero concert due to it having only JMJ and Rimbert on stage for most of the show (still not as bad as JMJ's monotonous robotic speeches in the same gig), and while a band setup did make a comeback soon after, in the past few years JMJ has definitely cropped more and more band members from his concerts/performances (which partially must have something to do with Covid-19, but not entirely since the 2020-2021 JMJ solo performances sound the same as the Electronica tour ones).

I love the concerts with a live drummer.... Houston, Lyon, Docklands, La Défense, Europe in Concert, CPLT. Makes such a difference to the on-stage vibe. That said, the solo JMJ show originates from 1979 and Place de la Concorde and yes, for sure that was all playback (wasn't it?) but the concept of the one-person outdoor electronic music show (think of all the superstar DJs that followed) is his. It just needs to be properly reworked for 2021. The show for Fête de la Musique 2021 simply didn't really come across authentically enough.

I think it would help JmJ if we offered solutions suggestions.

I've already offered a Concert suggestion.

Here's a Musical suggestion for a played Live One man show :
Stripping the track to what could be played by One person on a Piano;
Making this Piano parts into Electronic;
Then there's only 2 Electronic parts to play per track or sequence at any one time + drums + fx.
JmJ would be able to do this Live.

Eg. Oxygene 4 : sequence not required.
Just require Bass constant.
Lead melody bridge chorus played one at a time + drums +fx.

There's those Piano songbooks of JmJ's music.
Just make them Electronic.

Agree totally. It would be really cool.

JMJ suggested he'd do this sort of thing for Europe In Concert, if I recall.... interview with Music Technology magazine in 1993. "Just me, one keyboard and a mini-pops machine. A minimalist Oxygene" or words to that effect. Didn't happen though.

Oh yes. I'd also add 12DOTS to that list, even though it's already quite different from the other ones. And man, that Equinoxe 7 @ CPLT plain and simply rocks. 8)

During the Oxygene 7-13 and Oxygene tours he fulfilled this promise just for one track with Oxygene 13.

Gary Wallis - he was amazing. Shame JMJ didn't keep him as part of the team, because after 12DOTS we had Acropolis, Aero, China, Gdansk and none of those shows had the on-stage energy of 12DOTS.

And yes, that first part of Equinoxe 7 at CPLT - JMJ wearing a beret, one regular synth (not a LAG special), *that* bass line and a lot of dry ice is up there as one of the best concert moments ever.

No surprise that the bootleg book is already out (and also sold out at the moment) ;)

(Does make me wonder if JMJ is aware of this guy and how he's quite successful at selling his books...)
