Actually the best thing for me, regarding the transition from vinyl to CD, was that it was now possible to listen the complete album without having to turn the disc, still Equinoxe 4 and 5 are not meant to be continuous, that would spoil my childhood memories of that album.

The Equinoxe 5 on Rarities 6 is the original,the version on the CD album is quite different.
The lead is a different sound & is more to the left channel,& the lower lead is to the right channel,in the CD version they were both more to the centre of the stereo field,that scrapey sound (Know the one I mean) starts from the beginning of the original,in the CD version it fades in after a couple of bars,the sound effects in the original are less prominent,also the descending notes,if you know what I mean pan from left to right in the original & they are fixed in the CD version.
Also,I did once have a 12" vinyl single which played the CD version both sides,it was from 1978,on the red label Polydor,& it read Equinoxe 5 (Remix),cat no is PRO076.

So...I suppose this is a good reason why you should try to got hold of every versions of Jarres tracks.

The LP version is better. But I like both of them

There is only a unique mix of Equinoxe 5.
Due to Dolby use or not use on some records (most of cassettes don't have Dolby althought it is mentionned), some recording seems sounding different whereas there is only unique version of Equinoxe 5.
The most surprising records come from Concert in China video and some cassettes where FX and Eminent part are very high.

I like both, but to choose only one, it would have to be the original!

After many thoughts I allways got stuck with only one conclusion.
I prefer every version of this track as long as the lead in the track remains the same
no matter from wich direction the sound is coming. The lead melody is very simple
yet so freaking unique and genious. I haven't heard anything similar from anybody else
before JMJ's recording. It's not the end of the world, but I think that you can hear the
surrounding sound effects better on one recording allthough it has a lead that doesn't
move around as much between the L/R channel as it does on the other recording.
So it has to be a question of "my mood at the moment" wich recording I prefer.
