Is it necessary to take everything so literal? It's obvious to everyone Jarre didnt make those remixes, and they're not part of his body of work, which means they are more like bonuses than part of the Rarities selection itself.

Well, I guess some people need to complain when they aint getting something, and some people need to complain when they get more than they expected :-)
I didn't realise we no longer had an opinion around these parts anymore

I suppose you will get high-res artwork when you buy one of the official downloads.

I didn't realize anyone had told you not to have an opinion.

I just mean, it isnt necessary to complain whenever your own personal expectation or dream isnt met. Remixes tacked on to the end of a compilation? The shock, the horror!!! :-) People have too high expectations and too much information these days. It's information overload. People are actually sitting around here expecting rare 12" remixes and certain pre-Oxygene tracks that are their own faves. Where did they get the info from that this album would have rare 12" remixes? Nowhere! They dreamed it up in their head! And when FDM fails to deliver - not Jarre, but FDM! - they complain about it. And directs it towards JMJ no less, the man who is LEAST responsible for this project. Sure, he collaborated but FDM initiated it, and JMJ did not collaborate all he could because he didnt allow FDM to use tracks from post-FDM albums, as if they are not essential.

Try to base expectations on confirmed information, at least. Try it just once. I promise it wont hurt you :-)

shadow wrote:Just finished listening to the Essentials, but what a dissapointment... All the tracks are the original album pieces, and some are cut short (Oxygene 2 is only the first half, and Magnetic Fields just the first part). Couldn't they atleast have decided to release the: Paris La Defense version of Equinoxe 4 and Les Chants Magnetiques 2, or the vinyl Record version of Equinoxe 5...
How can it be a dissapointment regarding Equinoxe 4 and MF2 from La Defense? Nobody thought they would be included, and everyone knew those tracks were not up for inclusion here. Why? They dont belong to Dreyfus like the studio recordings Jarre made for them. So they could never be expected to be included here. Why you expected them to be included I dont understand, as no info has suggested they would be. On the contrary, everything pointed at tracks coming only from Drefus' catalogue.

And, you do understand they cant include the whole of MF1 on a compilation.....

Well I have the Images CD here, and that one contained the Paris La Defense Remix of Equinoxe 4 and a remix of LCM 2 (although not the PLD it sounded alot like it), even if it was cut short, and that release was also done by Dreyfus. So I actually hoped that they would included it, I wasn't expecting anything, I was hoping for it. Those remixes are many times better, and still we got that regular versions all of use have a million times...
The Tracklisting is pretty good, and many times better then most compilations that are already released, but I just had somewhat higher hopes, especially because of Images which featured new tracks and new remixes ;)
GlennFolkvord wrote:And, you do understand they cant include the whole of MF1 on a compilation.....
Well they could, but yes I understand why they don't. But here I was more or less hoping for the third part of the track rather then, once again, just the first part. It's somewhat like back in 2004 with the latest: "The Essentials".

It's just not what I hoped for, but the second disc makes up for it :)

Yes I doubt that anyone has ever heard the so called "rare" tracks in this high quality before. :)

i saw the interview where they explain the remastering of the rarities

Yes indeed. The interview focused on the specific mastering for the vinyl realease of Rarities, but the tracks on both CD's were newly remastered as well.
