Oxygene 3 uninspired? Truly doubtful.

I liked E project, especially Vol 2, though I feel that the new Oxygene is a real and intense Jarre-feeling.


However, Jarre doesn't like anniversaires, so maybe it was Sony who forced him to compose a new opus; I think this album is more like for fans than for market/record company.......despite Sony might have forced Jean-Michel.

Record companies, public at large, review sites seem to go for glazed doughnut.
There are others preferring Crème brûlée ...

I have, and I can't find anything that verifies 80 million sold. On the other hand, such things are very hard to measure and get correct figures for. Which makes a lot of artists get away with esitmates and claims that really can't be verified (Kiss is the main culprint here)

Somebody has done some math :

Concerts in China : 1 million at best

Well that's just depressing...

It might be only a coincidence or just my own interpretation, but when I read that in August he was considering to quit composing music in order to focus on painting, I've immediately remembered that, during my brief interview after the soundcheck in Rome on 9th July, we talked about painting and I gave him my first artbook with some of my pictorial tributes to his music.
Moreover, he seemed quite moved when I told him that my brother was dying from lung cancer (he passed away 2 days later). He signed the cover of an "Oxygene" lp with his name and he didn't speak anymore as he was brooding over that horrible fact.

When I've heard "Oxygene 18" for the first time I couldn't help thinking it was a musical translation of the last hours of my brother. That melancholic ambient interlude reflects exactly my feelings when he was in coma in his bed with a respiratory mask, adding the sense of otherworldly peace of someone who's freed from a long suffering.

Yes. This is the thing with JmJ humane sensitve he cloaks behind cheerfulness as those Tibetan sages pretending to be jokesters.

Oxygene 18 is just as you describe.

Two of my paintings were supposed to be featured in the "O40" book announced this summer but sadly the project seems to have been scrapped (my selfportrait was included in the GIF posted on Jarre FB page). The #oxygeneseries looks like an online replacement of that project, even though there isn't a real selection of the content since there are a lot of images unrelated to Oxygene and the 40th anniversary.

I think I'm going to rename Part 16 to Magnetic Fields 2016 because that's exactly what it feels like to me.
(I'm thinking about the rhythmic loop in the last 1/3 of MF part 1)
It also has got some Geometry Of Love like strings in it.

Part 20 reminds me of Twin Peaks. That dark, mystical and a bit sentimental mood.
I'd bet David Lynch should like that track.

Interesting. I don't feel the same way though. That being said this is my most played track from this album (not counting Oxygene 17 single and my "concert remix"). The strings were a bit confusing at first but I got used to them quickly. Definitely "Side A" favorite.

To me, part 16 sounds like a demo Jarre did for the Tangerine Dream-collaboration in the Electronica-project. It has that 80's vibe of TD: Tangram, Green Desert, White Eagle, Logos.... And that's a positive thing.

Oxgene 3 is in my personal top 5 of JMJ-albums. If you consider consider The Concert in China a live album instead of a 'real' album, Oxygene 3 is in my top 4.
