It's a shame that quite a few of those projects never (officially) saw the light of day. There's so much stuff I'd absolutely kill for to have a high quality/official release.
Forever a shame that 'The Twelve Dreams of the Sun' has (officially) been gathering dust in the archives when it probably has the most interest arrangements of most of the tracks.
I understand that it's a matter of seeing what is worth releasing on a per basis*, but it's still a shame that quite a bit has been promised as receiving a release in the future, but for a deafening silence to end up taking their place.
The one thing that I absolutely love, and wish they'd do more often, was that absolutely random drop of 'Popcorn' for seemingly no reason whatsoever earlier this year.
Drop older singles this way, drop Travelator Part 1 and 3, drop C'est La Vie Part 2, just please... Do this more often! ;_;

*Not seeing the Dead Sea concert ever see the light of day, especially not considering everything that's currently going on over there these days.
Still that one concert where I am genuinely curious what the team was thinking when picking Israel for a concert, but that's a different matter altogether.

One of the biggest annoyances back in the day was the cancellation of the 2003 Paris La Defense DVD - and that was 21 years ago (the time between the concert itself and the planned release of the DVD was shorter  ).

The FDM rights issues at the time sadly did make sense, but you'd think that the chances would be better these days if anyone involved had actual interest in doing so.

My guess is that JMJ simply isn't interested in releasing DVD or Blu-ray versions of his concerts from the 1980s and 1990s. He often says in interviews that he isn't interested in nostalgia - usually as a means to evidence his interest in new technologies like AI, VR and so on - but I think this is actually the case, that he isn't bothered. His attitude, plus the hassle of getting the films from the archives, obtain the rights, remastering the quality, adding extras (e.g. some "... making of" footage) all needs a certain level of attention to detail that he just doesn't seem to have.

He also appears to disown the mega concerts to a certain degree, and this was especially true in interviews during the Electronica years, saying that they'd become so big they started to obscure the music, and that the scale was symptomatic of 1980s excess. I disagree and think the city in concert concept led to some extraordinary events that have a significance far wider than even JMJ perhaps realises.

On an economic level, he also has to balance the effort required to release a decent reissue vs. the sale returns. Would these discs actually sell in enough numbers to make a profit?

Genuinely doubt most of those concerts have any benefit of being released on blu-ray. Concerts in China was recorded on film, but the rest was all tape. Yes, you can deinterlace it, you can clean it up best you can, but at the end of the day... It's still just tape...

Yeah, the Bluray format would be underused for the old concerts, which is why PSB re-released the 1994 Discovery Tour (very obviously shot on tape as well) on DVD only just a few years ago - but with lossless PCM audio.

Even if that server still runs, the nfc-tag returns a links to 'https://tags.zatap.io/12/.......'

And this was in the (nerd) news:

https://www.computerworld.com/article/3 ... ction.html
"In the case of the .io domain, digital strategist Gareth Edwards wrote in a social media post, “IANA bases TLDs off ISO 3166 country codes. If a code stops existing, in theory, they follow suit and kill the TLD. Officially this was British Indian Ocean Territory. That is the .io domain everyone loves so much.”

According to Edwards, “once this treaty is signed, the British Indian Ocean Territory will cease to exist. Various international bodies will update their records. In particular, the International Standard for Organization (ISO) will remove country code ‘IO’ from its specification.”

Exactly the same here in Ireland. It seems a lot of people who ordered both formats are getting the CD first. Very few if any are getting both together or the vinyl first.

Mine arrived just now: #675/2000

Edit, seems that the bottom was slightly torn however even before being sealed... Well that's a bummer...
