PARIS 2024 PARALYMPIC GAMES - CLOSING CEREMONY | “BRINGING TOGETHER SPORT AND ELECTRONIC MUSIC”, VECTORS OF INCLUSION FOR JEAN-MICHEL JARRE

Jean-Michel Jarre spoke out, explaining that he had immediately accepted the invitation "with great enthusiasm."

"Electronic music was born in France and Europe, from our heritage. There is therefore a real meaning in closing these Games by bringing together sport and electronic music, which are the two main vectors of inclusion."

The famous French composer, who brought together a million spectators at his concert at the Concorde on July 14, 1979, on the same emblematic square in the French capital where the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games took place on August 28, said he was "proud and happy to share this stage with the cream of French music" for the closing.

The man who entered the Guinness Book of Records at the time for attracting an audience never before achieved, thus shares the experience of an unrivaled performance – like the best para athletes on the planet.

"The world has discovered the Paralympic Games as something extraordinary. Because all these people, they could be you or me tomorrow... They say that sport is basically about surpassing yourself and right now we see every day extraordinary people who surpass themselves, who surpass us, and it's very moving! So I'm particularly proud and honored to be part of this [closing] ceremony."

So JMJ says there will be surprises on Sunday and he wants to avoid the stereotypes of electronic music. I'm really curious to know what he meant by that.

It was claimed that he will open and close the ceremony. It is supposed be 1 hour long (musical part), right?

The evening will start at 8:30 p.m. with the Paralympic champions entering the stadium, the speeches and all the protocol aspects of the Olympic Games. The show will only start at nightfall, around 9:45 p.m. A way to avoid the famous protocol tunnel that inevitably dampens enthusiasm and to have the complete darkness necessary to magnify the work on the lights

Seems that there was info that Jarre will perform 6min at the opening and 6min at the end.

https://www.youtube.com/@paralympics seems to have livestreamed the closing ceremonies in 2016 and 2020, but who knows this time...

Yes, ARD Mediathek will stream live, but there will be a commentary, I'm afraid...
There will be no live broadcast on German TV, only the live stream and a round-up of 70 Minutes of the closing ceremony at 23:05 h on ARD.

These are clearly for the later release, it makes sense to record them in better quality in the studio, but these are the versions that he will play live tonight, so technically they are the live versions, even if not the actual live recording. That drumming for Industrial Revoltions sounds amazing, I can't wait to hear the version that he plays tonight. Adiescar has drums in her set, maybe she will do the drumming.

I just listened to it. It sounds like it was done within an hour. Completely unpolished.

* The volume of songs in the medley is all over the place. The verse of the first piece is shortened in a very weird, non-musical way.
* The extra cinematic drums added in one of the pieces sound like they were completely improvised without any further editing (they are frequently out of sync) and they don't sit in a mix at all.
* The harp opening sound effect just cuts off. Drums are way too loud, the ending doesn't seem to have any build-up and no power itself - sounds like all other instruments are at 10% of their volume.

Honestly I can't believe what I'm hearing. I can only hope this was a preliminary version that was not supposed to be published...
