1. JMJ has always complained about everything, it's callimero, if you believe him the entire world is against him, record companies, cities, administrations, the weather, etc. It is just the ideal excuse of him towards the fans to explain why he doesn't release his back catalogue. When he was at FDM still, the excuse was that there were technical reasons for not to release the old video recordings on dvd. Ever since he left FDM, suddenly the problem was FDM who didn't want to release the rights to him. Mmm, funny that he wants the rights of something that years before he declared it was in shite condition. The truth is simple, since 1995 Jarre doesn't represent anything when it comes to sales figures, what record company is going to be interested in taking the risk of releasing that material ? Some you of live in this fan world and think it is huge, but in comparison to what record companies need to have a break even, JMJ's fan base is minimal and it keeps on getting smaller. Ever noticed why Jarre doesn't release his concert books himself anymore with Editions Le Moniteur since 1995 ? It's always another organisation who does the production and takes the financial risk. If you have a look at FDM, you will see they are constantly releasing old back catalogue material from their artists, like Christophe for example, remastered, etc.
2. The whole thing about rereleasing his old tracks is Jean Michel Jarre's own fault, ever since 1993 at the Chronologie press conference, he keeps on announcing, promissing that he is working on the release of the material before 1976, this has been going on for nearly 15 years and still nothing has seen the light. Wouln't it simply be that aren't enough amateurs ? And by the way, you seem to forget that Dreyfus released Les Granges Brûlées on CD in 2003, by his own, in a serie of film music. How queer there weren't right problems for that
3. It takes two to split up, always. Jean Michel's entire career is based on fooling people and then splitting up (geiss, rousseau, dreyfus, rampling, christophe, juvet, garraud, etc, etc). I was there in 2001 when they split up, I don't recall seeing you there at the time! If it was Dreyfus' fault, how come Jean Michel lost his lawsuit against Dreyfus ? Shame he never talked about that eh; Also a bit odd to announce in 2005 he left his old record company, when that happened four years ago. He just turns facts into his favour all the time and makes out that image of sympathic boy that is so honest. Remember the Sessions 2000 issue ? What a ridiculous announcement was that of Jarre to say they were rehearsal material that FDM had taken without his knowledge and released without his approval! Rimbert talked to me in October 2001 already about their jazz project, the record was mixed by Joachim Garraud on JMJ's request; Do you have you rehearsing session mixed and mastered ? do you ? So who broke into the studio to get the recordings ? A rabbit ?
4. Francis Dreyfus is driving by passion yes, anybody will agree on that, who knows him. If you don't have the knowledge to see there is a big difference between FDM and the other record companies who are indeed only after the money (not all of them, there are still small labels), you have a problem. You might seem to forget FDM is the biggest independent record label in France, you know what that word means ?
Yes I sell my photos, of course. My passion is photography, it is also my living. When I go to a concert, I don't go there thinking "oh great, so I can sell the photos for some great cash afterwards". No, I think "I will make great photos for my portfolio". Afterwards I sell the photos simply because everybody needs a living sir. You have to be able to make that difference, doing something purely for the money, or doing something that you like, that could also include making profit once it sells well. Else we would be communists. I don't see why I shouldn't ask money, I had the travelling costs, the production costs, the knowledge etc. Same goes for a record, you have to pay for it simply because it costs money to produce it.
