OK,
Forgive me if this has already been asked before, but can someone clarify from which concert the tracks are taken from on both the original 'In Concert: Houston/Lyon' album and the 'Cities In Concert: Houston/Lyon' album:
IN CONCERT
Oxygène V
Ethnicolor
Les Chants Magnétiques/Magnetic Fields I
Souvenir Of China
Equinoxe V
Third Rendez-Vous 'Laser Harp'
Second Rendez-Vous
Last Rendez-Vous 'Ron's Piece'
Fourth Rendez-Vous
CITIES IN CONCERT
Oxygène V
Ethnicolor
Les Chants Magnétiques/Magnetic Fields I
Souvenir Of China
Equinoxe V
Third Rendez-Vous 'Laser Harp'
Equinoxe VII
Wooloomooloo
Second Rendez-Vous
Last Rendez-Vous 'Ron's Piece'
Fourth Rendez-Vous
I think 'Second Rendez-Vous' has been taken from the Houston concert, due to the NASA dialogue during the glissando going into part 3, but on other sites it says that it's the Lyon version.
Any help would be great!

I think it has been answered before, but I've added into your message where each track comes from.

IN CONCERT
Oxygène V - HOUSTON
Ethnicolor - LYON
Les Chants Magnétiques/Magnetic Fields I - LYON
Souvenir Of China - LYON
Equinoxe V - HOUSTON (most releases, LYON video version on French CD release)
Third Rendez-Vous 'Laser Harp' - LYON
Second Rendez-Vous - mainly LYON but with HOUSTON footage before and during glissando
Last Rendez-Vous 'Ron's Piece' - LYON
Fourth Rendez-Vous - LYON
CITIES IN CONCERT
Oxygène V - HOUSTON
Ethnicolor - LYON
Les Chants Magnétiques/Magnetic Fields I - LYON
Souvenir Of China - LYON
Equinoxe V - HOUSON
Third Rendez-Vous 'Laser Harp' - LYON
Equinoxe VII - HOUSTON
Wooloomooloo - LYON
Second Rendez-Vous - LYON mainly (but see as for In Concert CD)
Last Rendez-Vous 'Ron's Piece' - LYON (but with Ronald Reagan speech which makes it sound as though it's Houston)
Fourth Rendez-Vous - LYON mainly (but with JFK speech and footage which makes it sound like it should be Houston)
I think 'Second Rendez-Vous' has been taken from the Houston concert, due to the NASA dialogue during the glissando going into part 3, but on other sites it says that it's the Lyon version.

Rendez-Vous 2, apart from the NASA footage, sounds more like the Lyon version. Why? Proper choir sounds during the second part (the Houston version sounds more like the synth lead used in the Rendez-Vous album than a full blown choir) and the Lyon version has the more orchestral feel to it.

Wasn't the saxophone solo in Rendez-vous 4 added in the studio ?
There was no solo on the radio broadcast.

True. I was allocating the pieces from the Cities in Concert and Houston/Lyon albums to Houston and Lyon based on the video versions, which it has to be said, are not at all like the actual radio broadcasts. I'll have to check the Lyon video again, but I'm sure Kirk Whalum appears playing the saxophone during RV4!
There's a conspiracy going on! lol

Hehe !
I'm not sure but Kirk in RV4 could be footage from Ron's piece.

No

The same goes for the solo in Ethnicolor, on the cd it's quite different from the Lyon radio-broadcast.
Also the horns in Magnetic Fields I are re-recorded.
likely Concerts in China was mostly re-recorded as well... just to enhance audio quality and fix/improve the arrangements.

Overdub a playbacked recording with more playback? Madness!

Just to add another thought to the conspiracy theory - Could it be that Kirk did play a solo for RV4 at the concert but the mic wasn't plugged in so it didn't come out in the radio broadcast?

...or Rendezvous 4 was played twice at Lyon featuring Kirk Walhum on the encore version. We all know RV4 was performed twice at Houston, but the radio broadcast only has the first version. So maybe the same for the Lyon Radio broadcast never aired the encore??

Almost all official live recordings by any band/artist have overdubs or are a composite of several recordings to make it sound the best it can be. TBH I think this is a good thing, you'd not play them otherwise.

Second Rendez-Vous was taken all from Houston. On the Houston video you can see the choir, so they were there. Lyon's orchestra and drums sounds not like orchestra and drums on the album Houston/Lyon but they sounds most close to Houston's radio version. I'm not compared 4th part but I think it's from Houston too.

Nice bumb and to add onto the Fourth Rendez-vous track, doesn't that one begin with the Houston concert and then after J.F. Kennedy cuts towards the Lyon concert..? As the sax wasn't used in Houston and that's most definitely is on the album, but oddly enough it seems to cut back to the Houston recording with the audience and the news reporters, and Jarre speaking in English ofcourse... It's such a mess
Then again, the original release and the remastered re-release are an even bigger mess with more tracks and even more differences
Also where can I get the radio broadcasts..?

Here is my opinion:
Oxygene (part 5) - Houston.
Ethnicolor - Lyon, but dynamic part and orchestra was recorded in studio.
Magnetic Fields (part 1) - Recorded in studio.
Souvenir Of China - Recorded in studio.
Equinoxe (part 5) - One version was from Houston. Another version was from Lyon.
Third Rendez-Vous - Recorded in studio.
Equinoxe (part 7) - Houston.
Wooloomooloo - Lyon.
Second Rendez-Vous - Houston.
Last Rendez-Vous - Recorded in studio.
Fourth Rendez-Vous - Maybe is Lyon encore version, but maybe was recorded in studio.

I little project I did a while ago, the Real Cities In Concert. Taken from both radio broadcasts, enhanced and with audience noise taken from the videos.
Its one long mp3 file, you'll just need to split it.
Enjoy.
