Set designer Mark Fisher, whose credits include the West End production of We Will Rock You, has died at the age of 66.

A statement on the website of Stufish, the company he founded and was managing director of, said Fisher died “peacefully” yesterday (June 25) following a “long and difficult illness”.

“His work influenced not only the colleagues and crews with whom he worked but also surprised and delighted the many millions of people who experienced his designs all over the world,” it said.

As well as We Will Rock You, Fisher created designs for Cirque du Soleil’s Ka and Elvis, and for music artists such as the Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga and Madonna.

He was also a senior designer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, as well as being an executive producer of the opening and closing ceremonies for the London 2012 Olympics.

Paying tribute to Fisher on Twitter today, musical director Mike Dixon, who worked with Fisher on We Will Rock You, described him as a “friend and innovator”.

The great Mark Fisher just passed away. He has been one of the most creative designer of concerts. He had a dimension and a vision. I was lucky to meet the man with the crew of the show 'The Wall Live in Dortmund' by Pink Floyd, Westfalenhalle, Germany February 18 1981. Jean-Michel Jarre and I had dinner after the show at his table. The purpose of our trip was to see what Mark had designed for the show, in view of the scheduled concerts in China for which he was choosen by JM Jarre to be in charge of the visual concept.
Not only Mark was a hugely talented concert designer but he was also a very nice soft speaking person. His work will remain in the rock scene history.

Speaking about this Expo, there's a catalogue for this expo with some illustrations and artwork of his concerts.
There's some work on JMJ's concerts too, some unknown things

The drawings show design perspectives for the Forbidden City concert as part of Jean-Michel Jarre’s China Concerts. Fisher wrote on the first drawing: ‘Sketch showing proposed stage by night / Hydraulically elevated screen in raised post[io]n.’ The second image shows a surrealistic concept for a giant globe acting as a projection screen in front of the Imperial Palace. On the third image the usual stage at the far end of the arena or stadium is replaced by a surround theatre - the mark of an architect thinking in three dimensions.
