http://www.thestage.co.uk/news/2013/06/stage-designer-mark-fisher-dies-aged-66/Set designer Mark Fisher, whose credits include the West End production of We Will Rock You, has died at the age of 66.
A statement on the website of Stufish, the company he founded and was managing director of, said Fisher died “peacefully” yesterday (June 25) following a “long and difficult illness”.
“His work influenced not only the colleagues and crews with whom he worked but also surprised and delighted the many millions of people who experienced his designs all over the world,” it said.
As well as We Will Rock You, Fisher created designs for Cirque du Soleil’s Ka and Elvis, and for music artists such as the Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga and Madonna.
He was also a senior designer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, as well as being an executive producer of the opening and closing ceremonies for the London 2012 Olympics.
Paying tribute to Fisher on Twitter today, musical director Mike Dixon, who worked with Fisher on We Will Rock You, described him as a “friend and innovator”.
