Jean Michel's name typography, what is the symbolic behind ?

I was wonderding why the A in Jean and the M in Michel where special.
For instance on the Oxygene cover :
I've seen those on other stuffs :
A book by Jean Marie Périer (french photograph)
And the movie poster of Mean Streets
Do you know what's the symbolic behind that ? Do you know other examples ?
I believe it's maybe related to the "Franc-Maçons" as spotted here (in french)
