Hi

I'm in the process of doing a cover of Calypso 2 it is a work in progress so please useful and constructive comments please

Was done using my D-50, D-550 and a VST Synthex

No problem. But my bad, after listening again to the original I saw that you are right, there is a phaser in there too (a more sublte one indeed). I experimented a bit and got this :

I used TR909 style hats as a modulator and a basic synth as a carrier going into a vocoder. The hats are opening and closing according to the high or low note in the sequence (open for high, closed for low). I inserted a not very wet phaser after this and added a bit of short plate reverb.

Whaddya think?

Yeah its close that's pretty much where I've got to now but i feel its missing something.

I haven't quite put my finger on it but I'm getting there trying to use my Roland GAIA to recreate it will post something when I'm happy with it
