Back to the roots of making music. Well done, Mike. 8)
Way to go Mike! :clap3: 8) Btw the jazzy version of TB at the olympic opening ceremony was really weird yet funny me thinks.

Sounds like him in 1989 when he was done with Earth Moving and wanted to create Amarok (great album), and ofcourse annoy the living hell out of Virgin. He said almost the exact same thing

After all these years, I still haven't really paid much attention to his back catalogue. Finale from Tubular Bells 2003 (which I guess is the last part of the original Tubular Bells pt. 1) has been in my playlist for quite many years now, tho'

The documentary is brilliant. Especially the part where Mike plays different lines from Tubular Bells live in his studio. Possibly someone in the UK could download it from iPlayer and share with the world? So far I was able to find only one source, good quality but image cropped from the sides.

n answer to Martin Glatz' Dark Star interview on 28 June that year Oldfield had said:

"We'll have a fifty piece string orchestra, a couple of woodwind, an opera singer, two child sopranos, a rapper, a fifty piece choir, and we're going to make a documentary film to go along with the whole thing. We'll tour it. We would go in much the same way as Jean Michel Jarre does his things." The details were similar, still spectacular, but not quite the same as he envisaged at that time. The very impressive concert and light show are available on video.

"The Edinburgh show was an outdoor show and we can have fireworks and we can have lots of people and that kind of show is more like a big event, like a Jean-Michel Jarre type of thing and I'd love to do more of those - I love outdoor shows.

Just listening to the new album Man On The Rocks.
It's nowhere near the old Mike but yet a decent easy listening pop/rock album that simply puts you in a good mood. Quite some ballads a la Robbie William style going on and one or two rock'n roll songs. Sure in the short guitar solos you can notice that classical Oldfield sound but that's about it. Far away are the synths, for some maybe for the better.
So a happy little album from a senior garage rock band with a young, promising singer.

Jarre concerts attended - Destination Docklands 1988 - Paris La Defense 1990 - Europe In Concert 1993 (Manchester & London) - Oxygene Tour 1997 (Birmingham)

"A group of men and woman entered the laboratory one month ago to live in a smell free world. Body odour, sweaty arms pits and smelly feet are to create the energy to survive. A total mystery surrounds this experiment, and it's project code name: B.O and Smell'i "

Very interesting. The rock album I will certainly buy.
Mike is inspired by divorce, he has creative ideas without a woman. JMJ only if he has a woman.
