Jarre is in Hamburg today, announcing his collaboration for the "Winter of Moon" programme on arte in January. Jean-Michel didn't compose new Music, but will present the programme.


It's not only one broadcast, but there will be a main focus of the arte programme on the moon for two weeks (January 6 to 20 2019). This will also include movies like Apollo 13 etc.

Arte will be launching a "Winter of Moon" in 2019. For two weeks, the Franco-German cultural channel will be broadcasting its program in January (January 6-20) and will be addressing topics in feature films and documentaries from the fields of science, history and pop culture around the moon .

The topic will be presented by the electropionier Jean-Michel Jarre, as the 70-year-old himself announced on Monday in Hamburg .

The occasion is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing of Apollo 11: 20./21. In July 1969, the US astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first human to enter the moon - 500 million viewers worldwide watched the event spellbound in front of the TV. With "Winter of Moon", Arte transfers the concept of his long-standing "Summer of" series to a theme that at the same time reflects the history and future of humanity, explained program director Bernd Mütter.

Ron Howard's drama «Apollo 13» will kick off the science-film-culture series, and other feature films include Federico Fellini's «The Voice of the Moon», Fritz Lang's «Woman in the Moon» and «The Journey to the Moon» by Georges Méliès. Also part of the program are the three-part documentary series "Man and the Moon - A Love in Three Acts" and the documentary "Survival on the Moon".

Musically, Arte relies on "Pulse - The Dark Side Of The Moon" with a Pink Floyd concert from 1994 as well as the music film "Moonwalker" with pop star Michael Jackson. The presenter Jarre himself is in the documentary "A Journey Into Sound", which shows material from private and public archives and in addition to the French musician also has family, friends and colleagues to speak.

ARTE launches, from January 6, "Winter of Moon", a journey in the space mixing science and culture to get us right into this anniversary period of the first step on the Moon. This program will be presented by Jean-Michel Jarre, pioneer of electro and astronomy enthusiast, who is currently releasing his new album, Equinoxe Infinity.

With its "Winter of Moon", ARTE declines the concept of "Summer of", seizing a theme that has deeply marked the history of Humanity and remains a news full of promise. Just 50 years ago, Man walked for the first time on the Moon and to celebrate this anniversary, ARTE devotes 2 weeks of programming. Boarding for the hidden side of the moon!

On the program of this "Winter of Moon": films (Ron Howard's Apollo 13 (Sunday 6/1), Georges Méliès's Voyage en la Lune (6/1), Fritz Lang's La Femme sur la Lune (Sunday 13 / 1) ...) and documentaries navigating between science, history and pop culture. With notably William Karel's "docu-liar", Operation Moon (Saturday 12/1), which tells how the first steps on the Moon would be a fiction directed by Stanley Kubrick ... A reflection on the power of images and manipulation media on Cold War background. The documentary series Man and the Moon (Saturday 12/1) which examines the magic of the Moon, as a cultural and scientific phenomenon, or the documentary Moon, the eighth continent (Tuesday 8/1) which take hold of a burning question: the moon, new land to colonize? In pop-culture (Friday 11/1): rediscover the legendary concert P.U.L.S.E. - The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, Moonwalker, a musical film, which takes us back to the fantastic world of Michael Jackson or a portrait of Jean-Michel Jarre, who looks back on his artistic adventure and reminds us of this concert shocking given to Houston in homage to astronauts missing in the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion in 1986.
