Composer and electro pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre is sponsor of the Council for Strategy and Innovation of Sacem, known as CSI, created last autumn, on the initiative of the members of the Board of Directors of the Sacem. Objective: to initiate a real reflection around innovation and best support creators and publishers in a world that is moving faster and faster.
Why is it important to have a CSI?
Technology will revolutionize the way we create, produce and distribute our creations, with the emergence in particular of metaverses, that is to say the different virtual worlds, or the development of artificial intelligence.
And it is also the role of Sacem to look into the ethical problems that will arise in the relationship between these technologies and creators.
What is your role as a sponsor?
First of all, to convey the message that these upheavals are not negative and that we must seize them! We also need to think about how to assert and adapt copyright. Sacem can play a role of mediator between new technologies and the world of creation, which has always been able to take the technologies of its time to do something else with them. Because the role of artists is also to transform existing technology into something new and creative!
How do you imagine Sacem tomorrow?
Sacem is already well into the digital world. More than any other authors' society in the world, it is ready to confront these new challenges. The Sacem of tomorrow will succeed in adapting, recognizing and enforcing copyright, so dear to our French and European DNA, and in spreading the message throughout the world. If we take the right path, Sacem has a bright future ahead of it, because copyright, unlike any royalties, is not based on a medium, it is based on creation...it is that is, on what happens between a blank page and a full page. It's timeless, it doesn't depend on the medium, you can switch from Gutenberg to the Internet, the creative process remains!
