Jean-Michel Jarre will present his new immersive creation at GIFF

Electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre is the guest of honor at the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) to be held from November 3 to 12. The French artist will present "The Eye and I", an immersive experience dedicated to control and surveillance.

Jean-Michel Jarre will accompany the world premiere of his latest immersive creation, "The Eye and I", which he made with Taiwanese artist Hsin-Chien Huang, the GIFF said in a statement on Wednesday. Finding its source in the first sense of the word "surveillance" which, in English, originally referred to "eyes in the sky", this immersive and collective experience is interested in the omnipresent control in contemporary society.

Prize and masterclass

The Frenchman will receive the "Film & Beyond" award in recognition of his exceptional contribution to music and the digital arts.

The musician, to whom we owe the album "Oxygène", will return to his extraordinary career and his interest in new technologies during a public masterclass on November 7. He has been responsible for promoting the metaverse by the French National Center for Cinema and Animated Image for a year.

I am a lot more intruigued by The Eye and I than the Oxymore Works album. While some of those remixes are good (Adiescar Chase, Irène Drésel) and one is fantastic (French 79) the others are really quite weak. The most disappointing are those from NSDOS and Brian Eno; both fall flat.

Meanwhile, this collaboration seems to offer something really special. The visual work of Hsin-Chien Huang seems to fit well with JMJ's approach to sound design. And they both have Laurie Anderson in common:

Looked up his Wiki page, Hsin-Chien_Huang also worked with Laurie Anderson.

Interviewing the other eye from the cover of Pink Floyd's Pulse with Chronologie 4-esque imagery in the background: Nice!

(Coincidentally, one of the flashing words in the C4 music video is "PULSE" ;))
