I was wondering if there was any slight differences between the music on these compilation CDs (where they have the same song).
The Essential Jean-Michel Jarre (1983)
Musik aus Zeit und Raum (1983)
The Essential 1976-1986 (1985)
:~D
P.S. I didn't include The Essential (2004) which looks cheap!

The Essential from 2004 is something completely different and was released without JM's involved. The first two CDs were released in 1983 and have the same tracklisting, but the third is the french issue from 1985 and includes Zoolookologie

Are the track times or recordings any different. For example on the 7" releases there are some edits, remixes, etc. Maybe really subtle differences. Just wondering.

The Musik aus Zeit und Raum album (the vinyl) has a different version of Magnetic Fields Part 2. Don't remember which one though (can't play vinyls anymore), if it is unique or appears on other releases?

I still have the TAPE version of "Musik aus Zeit und Raum" - my first Jarre album btw , which is, I believe, identical to the vinyl version. It contains the single edits of the following tracks: Oxygene 4 (clipped at the beginning before melody starts), Equinoxe 5 (faded out original vinyl version), Oxygene 2 ("main melody returns" version), Magnetic Fields 2 (drums mixed differently), Orient Express (announcement of stewardess clipped at the beginning), Equinoxe 4 (the all known "digest version" of the album version), Magnetic Fields 4 (main melody less echoed as on album version).
For some reason, neither The Essential nor MaZuR CD-releases contain these single edits, which really is a pity, as I would still like to have a high quality CD version of above single mixes, especially MF 2 and MF 4, which sound very different to the album versions. I guess they decided for these CD releases to use above songs from the CD-masters due to their superior quality.

Hmmm - I think I have never heard those remixes... unless they are on one of the Rarities CDs??

Maybe on Rareties 6 recently posted by Fbazo. But I've seen them posted elsewhere, too, usually called "LP single version".
Real of fake?

Hy!
I can decided, that this release is a real or a fake, unoffical. I miss the Dreyfus logon on the back cover:

UPDATE:
I found out that the Bulgarian CD version does not have a Dreyfus logo: http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=4452885
Strangely the copyright year for that release is given as:
(C) 1992 JUSAUTOR
(P) 1992 UNISON
Don't know how 'official' this version actually is..
