Hi all,

Over the weekend I have had the opportunity to visit various London branches of the two biggest music shops in the country and what I found was quite extraordinary...

All of Jarre's major studio releases (except Jarremix) for sale! I'm well used to popping in and finding Aero and perhaps Oxygene or Equinoxe, but in all of the shops I visited the racks were full of back catalogue! I even picked up Les Granges Brulees and had a choice of shops to buy it from. I haven't seen that album for sale for at least a couple of years!

Quite extraordinary!

So it seems to me that M. Jarre might be enjoying something of a secret renaissance here in the UK, especially as he has never been particularly mainstream over here. Is anyone else finding this?

I've always found it to be the other way round,years ago you could buy just about any Jarre Album(even before and after the Sony represses)now its lucky if you get Oxygene remaster,...Even Metamorphoses doesnt even grace the Racks now....
Jarres always had a steady flow of albums in the shops,but of late I have noticed very little on the shelves,places like HMV/Virgin seem to have all but dried up apart from AERO,but i did happen to get hold of an Original copy of GOL from HMV about 18 month ago,apart from that i havent seen much apart from the "Essential" dreyfus red cover CD,but as much as i love Jarre I'm not paying £20 for a compilation that I've already got the Tracks anyway..
Most of his albums are listed on their respective web sites,but the shops don't seem to stock anything apart from AERO..
I find the same with Vangelis....apart from maybe the odd copy of Opera Sauvage....

And as for TD!!!they must have the largest back catalogue going,yets theres never anything in HMV or Virgin....

I only really tend to bother with 2nd hand Vinyl shops now...

I thought this was going to be about Poland to be honest.

That may be the case in the big London stores but it certainly isn't where I live. My local HMV is gradually being taken over by the DVD and Games sections. Less than 25% of the floor space is given over to Rock & Pop where as a few years ago it would have been 75%, subsequently all the major artists CD's have been cut back.

Jarre's music is definitely experiencing reneissance here

I don't know how does it look in other countries...I heard that he's much less popular now in France - but I'm not the right person to judge if it's truth.

Same, however, I've bought all I can really buy from HMV, etc for my musical tastes, and I'm slowly turning to sites like Boomkat and Warp's Warpmart for "rarer" releases.

At least it's not going on here. Which annoys me.

Also, what I want is a proper Jarre renaissance, like all past concerts on DVD with extras and other neat stuff and all albums too

It used to be the same here in NL, some stores had his entire back catalogue, but nowadays there's only AERO and The Essential (Dreyfus 2004)...

In Paris, most shops have his entire back catalogue on the shelves. I even remember the branch of FNAC at Les Halles, Paris, had a huge amount of TD albums too, as well as Schulze...

But all his albums are available, they only have to order it. (at the cd-shop in my city).

Indeed. Usually in NL, they have only the mainstream stuff or the very well selling old albums of famous bands. NL IS mainstream. Oh, well..

Plato has ALL his albums available!
