Recently I Listening a Beatiful Upgrades of "La Cage" and "Erosmachine" available on Rarities 5, the sound is really amazing and clear, now my question is ¿somebody have this two Upgrades in FLAC format? to better quality, and "Equinoxe Pt. 7" and "Equinoxe Pt. 8" from La Concorde7 LP in Flac, Thank's Very mutch to all!...

Hi,
I have 2 questions about this single :

1) It is said on various websites that the music was actually recorded in 1969, despite it was released in 1971.
How do we know that ?
Do we have a reliable source for this info ?

No.

JMJ recorded it during his time at the GRM with Pierre Schaeffer. He was there from 1967-1969 I believe. He left the GRM and had it released afterwards. Said by JMJ himself and various others if I recall correctly.

Nope. Jarre joined GRM in 1968 and left it in 1971. I don't know when he actually recorded La Cage.

2) I heard there exists fake La Cage copies.

I haven't. Why would anybody fake such a peculiar record?

You can always check the matrix-number in the vinyl, but still that's not a proof of a real copy. I've got two copies here. One of them comes from the O.R.T.F.-archive; the label is perforated with the letters ORTF. I don't think ORTF had bootlegs in their archives . It has the same matrix number as the other copy I have and other copies I've seen.

I've seen a lot of copies on ebay. Some of them look too good to be real, but I've got a single by Igor Wakhévitch (the guy that did AOR together with Jarre) from that same era and this single looks mint too. It may be a stock copy. The website www.frenchattack.com sold at least 3 copies that were in mint condition. I think that there are still more than 117 copies (the 'official' number of copies being sold) left and that the unsold records weren't destroyed. Frenchattack.com sells a lot of stock copies (in mint condition) of early releases by others artists, so why not La Cage? The story about the rest of the stock being destroyed may be just a rumour. Maybe there is still a box of new singles, somewhere in a basement of EMI, or already sold to frenchattack.

Did you spot the different colours? My copies don't have that label on the right side anymore. What you are looking at is the backside of this label. It can be folded to the front to keep the single in the sleeve. My Wakhévitch single has still has this label and it's definitely white. The inner sleeve is white too. So maybe, the one with the brown paper is a fake one....

correct, about one year and a half ago, record dealers from Europe were "invited" by a Frnehc dealer to go in a stock of EMI / Pathe Marconi records in Paris. In short, about 300.000 records all original issues which were due to be destroyed, including extremely rare releases and singles. about 12 record dealers went in the stock and took what they wanted. My father is a record dealer as well and he found about the story a few months later throug his colleagues. This has upset a lot of dealers because those records are now being sold for nearly dumping prices. Anyway, about 300 copies of La Cage were in the stock and they been distributed to several dealers who sold them on eBay and on records fairs for lower prices than before. All the copies are in absolute mint condition since they were never used. Today the stock is a complete mess, everything has been thrown to pieces ...

anyway it means there are now about 500 copies of La Cage, so the record is worth a lot less today ...

Finally an actual confirmation of my theory... This number of 300 copies in the stock..is that just a guess or some estimation based on what you've heard or the exact actual number of extra copies?

Oh well. I thought I did remember JMJ saying he recorded it during his time at the GRM. I must be mistaken. Then again I don't really care anymore about those details.

There's another reason to make a fake copy. I had one made, last year, and I didn't sell it. I like vinyl but buying La Cage was too expensive so someone "cut" this copy for me
