Here's an excellent with Daniel Lazerus, one of the sound engineers on Zooklook. It refers mostly to Donald Fagan's Nightfly album - one of my all-time favourites. The Zoolook reference is interesting:

"I got some great album projects out of just doing "The Nightfly." Jean Michel Jarre did an album called "Zoolook" in 1984. He came to New York to work with me because he liked "The Nightfly." It was the first album that he had done using real musicians and using all this keyboard stuff."

Here's the full interview:

Some really interesting people worked on Zoolook:

One of the assistant engineers on Zoolook was Alan Moulder, he went on to do mixing and production for famous alternative rock bands like Curve, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails.

Another Zoolook engineer, David Lord, worked with Peter Gabriel.

Laurie Anderson, a great original solo artist.

Zoolook guitarist Adrian Belew also played with David Bowie and Talking Heads.

Sadly the drummer for Zoolook, Yogi Horton, committed suicide a few years ago. I love his drums at the climax of Ethnicolor 1, they really take the track to a higher level.

Plus Frederic Rousseau did a lot of work on Zoolook.

Strangely most of Jarre's usual collaborators (Michel Geiss, Dominique Perrier, Francis Rimbert) were not involved in Zoolook.

In fact Zoolook was the first JMJ album where more than a few (Michel Geiss and Patrick Pelamourges) were involved during the studio recording / sessions. Zoolook was the first real ensemble recording by JMJ. Dominique Perrier, Francis Rimbert et al were credited on the sleeve notes from the Rendezvous album onwards.*

The only usual collaborator at that time was Michel Geiss.
Perrier worked with JMJ only on the China '81 tour, was touring with Didier Marouani at the time of Zoolook and was starting to be a frequent collaborator of JMJ only at the time of the Rendez-Vous album/live concerts.
Rimbert supplied some Korg keyboards for JMJ's Concorde concert, but wasn't to work with him in the studio from the same period onwards. At the time of Zoolook, he was working for some jingle production company.
As for Geiss, I do think he was involved, as far as the homestudio sessions are concerned.
