How would he explain , talk about the decision he was choosing 2 pieces from the album? :)
We know how he talked about the album before...

Same thought went to my head when I saw the topic title, but yeah does he have to make a statement about it..? I personally would like to hear why he chose to use two tracks of an album he called a "mistake" (although Vintage is an awesome piece and is that real "Jarre" piece of the album), and still use them on a concert.
But if he wants to use them without reason, then he can do whatever he wants... I'll enjoy the music never the less :bravo:

Maybe, he has changed his mind and it is not a mistake. :p:

What did he say exactly? :?

I agree with Kanta.....also why should he not play T&T when the audience wants it? For me this album is not my favorite, but not so bad.

@Kanta, @Alexa: Same time, same place for your pic with JM ?

In an interview by French Trax magazine in 2010, Jean Michel Jarre said Téo & Téa had been a mistake in his career:
C'etait une erreur cet album, une connerie. Sur un plan personnel, j'avais plein de galères et je me suis amusé à jouer avec des samples, comme une récréation. Et on l'a sorti comme album. Mais quand je le réécoute aujourd'hui... Je l'assume, hein, il faut bien assumer ce qu'on fait, mais je ne le referais pas.

(This album was a mistake, a dumb thing to do. I had a lot of personal problems at the time, and I kept myself entertained playing with these samples. And then they were released as an album. But when I listen to the album today... well, one has to stand behind one's own work, I guess, but I really wouldn't do it again.)
However, this trollish topic could be avoided by something more people should do on the internet nowadays: think before you post.

There are a few things you can consider:
1. One can say an album he or she made was a mistake but it might have one or two tracks on it that are really good. And it can work the other way too. For example: I really love the Concerts in China album, but I don't like the song Souvenir of China. That doesn't mean I don't like the CiC album.

2. There's a difference between listening to an album and playing songs. If a musician likes to play these songs live (mind you: Vintage did really well at the Monaco concert), it could sometimes benefit the song too. For example: Together Now is a horrible song, but on the Paris '98 live album, it is actually quite good.

The T&T does have a couple of good tracks. Its not his most solid of studio albums, but it does have its moments. Personally I don't think it was a mistake, but atleast he got it out of his system. He did it, released, moved on, regretted it, revisted it (as the latest tour has shown). Jarre cannot have a hit with everyone evey single time. Thats impossible.

I think so too, Jon. :nico:

Thank you Dr Jones, I did not know the exact wording.

I think its not strange that he now plays some albumtracks in concerts. It is not ununsual for creative working people, that distance themselves from work (maybe because they were created in a situation of which he wants to distance itself too?) :nico: Time heals wounds, and often changes the way of looking at the past. Thereby also on the products which are created in a particular (perhaps difficult) phase. I can understand him well , if it is so.

Well said. Even though JMJ said T&T was a mistake, that doesnt mean the album is "officially" a mistake and we should all slag it off on that ground. JMJ often is critical towards his own work when some time has passed. When asked what his favourite album is, he says "the next one".

T&T is not a mistake in the sense that is succeeded in being different from previous albums, and it also covered different styles, as well as being a great narrative story. From a conceptual point of view, it is not a mistake. But I am JMJ has personal relations to it that means the album doesnt fit in with his ambitions.

Didn't he want to make it a whole social-media-hype-hit-thing with a contest website and an anime kind of clip? He went all DJ-ing in clubs etc, and wanted to do a sort of dance-act, work with DJs and get his music into that kind of scene. From a commercial point of view, that was a complete flop. Also his fanbase is not of the dancy-type. Most of them like to relax and listen to the music in stead of dancing to it. I think that may be what he meant saying it was a failed effort.

That doesn't mean the music isn't worthwhile. For me personally, I don't like the Teo&Tea stuff pretty much. But JMJ did. At least at the time he was working on it, otherwise he would not have it released. Just like Jones said, the concept may not have worked as an album and media-project, but the tracks may work pretty well in the context of a concert. It's pretty clear he wants to have a party at his concerts and he thinks these tracks suit this purpose. Sounds logical to me.
