During 2011 tour, Jean Michel once did mentionned 2013, I clearly remember. So , I am not that surprised.

Let's see Depeche Mode for example.
Dave said they made about 20 demos for the yet no-name forthcoming album.
"Some songs are very promising in their current form, others still require more work, but we are moving ahead well."
Recordings expected to finish by end of the year. "We have deadline by end of November and I see no reason to change our method" - Dave.
"We have fine plans and will be touring next year."

I just wrote the above to see the difference how things can go on. With Jarre, the certain is the uncertain, unfortunately. When will you read such like things above regarding Jarre?

"Studio Album ????" should be the thread name.

As many of you know, Metamorphoses was Jarre's last true Album. He put a lot of effort its creation and I always considered it to be a modern day Zoolook. JMJ fans have always been mixed on Meta but I always enjoyed it. All music he did after it are more like "side projects" (Sessions 2000, GOL, AERO) and one grand disaster (T&T).

Hopefully he can get his creative spirit back and create one last master work. It would be a shame for T&T to be his last musical creation....

But yes, I said this several times, I think it was his goodbye-album, hence the title. It was his goodbye as big name composer and time to step down to smaller things. After that, it was time for experiments. In fact, his musical output in the 00s was bigger than in the 90s, but it was all side-projects and experimental music: jazz (Sessions 2000), soundtrack (Qui Veut Devenir Une Star, Match TV), lounge (GoL), live tracks (ViZitors, Acropolis tracks, China tracks, Water for Life track, etc), dance (T&T), musique concrete and wibbly-wobbly stuff (Interior Music, Bourges), that's a lot of albums and unreleased material, mostly in the not-classic Jarre style.

And I think Variation 3 is one of the best things he composed in the 00s.

Sure, but the same can be said for literally ALL of JMJs post Deserted Palace material: he's always had "help" in the studio.

To me one of the biggest mysteries no one mentions here is this: what does JMJ truly sound like? If he were locked in the studio alone, with no other "collaborators", how would his music sound? It's a very good question because if you think about it, he has never made a true "solo" album (pre-Oxygene). I want to hear JMJ by himself. ...what does he sound like? We may never know...

Personally I think not much different then he did with Oxygene and Equinoxe but alot more primitive sounding. Considering Deserted Palace was his one true solo album, some of the tracks are quite good but they just sound very flat (Windswept Canyon) but the track itself is actually pretty good, also there is a small piece in the Interior Music near the end, Gossip, Erosmachine all somewhat to me sound like Happyness is a Sad Song. Personally I think that's the kind of music I consider true Jarre, but we'll never know unless we would kidnap him and lock him into a room for half a year to make a new album :P

That does not work :) You must also catch Charlotte R. and locked them together into a room. :mrgreen:

Seriously: I would strongly recommend him for at least a year, going away from the music industry . TOTAL! Other creative people do the same, otherwise nothing works.
I like to repeat it again: With internal or external coercion... nothing works .

He must rid himself of them, meet new people, not only from the music industry, new impressions, new surroundings, new activities. Just anything that has to do with this music industry. From best, no internet, not even to read here in this forum. :( I really wish he can do it. Immersion.
Maybe take a trip around the world, looking for a place in the world, which offers peace and inspiration. ( A trip to the North Pole, an expedition into the Amazon jungle, snorkel on a Maldives island etc. ) Just off the fans and people which always want something from him.
Note:
Carl Orff has only composed one great music: Carmina Burana (and some unspectacular music for the Olympic Games ) and he was always an respectable artist. Till now !
