First composed this track for this album, before I played it at the Coachella Festival in the summer of 2018: I thought that this piece would be a great opening-track for my festival-appearance and for my US-tour. Actually, that led me to work on the live-version before I recorded the studio-version with a different approach. So, both pieces are related to each other, but they are not exactly the same. For the studio album I went back to my original idea, which is kind of a momentum where a huge gate is opening onto something & somewhere else - Watchers opening doors onto virgin territories, the future being virgin territory for us. 'The Opening', was never meant to be the opening for the album but more as a passage to a next stage.

Let's face it, Jarre has "form" when it comes to tracks that divide opinion going back to the bloody Last Rumba.

As for M6, I doubt I will ever like it, but it's been playing in my head for about a day for some strange reason..

There's more going on in Computer Weekend.
Ive made it simpler so we can grasp what's going on.

Not even Vangelis has composed something as clever as Computer Weekend.

Is it though? Even if it was cheesy back then (I can't judge personally, too young for that) it was still a thing of its own, not something that could be instantly labeled as "oh, this is present day mediocre pop".

No, neither of those. After reviewing all albums (in my head) the only songs that follow the dreaded 4-chord progressions are:

1. Vintage (it does not repeat that many times though)
2. Glory (although I wouldn't really count it as those 4 chords are part of a longer 8 chord progression)
3. Infinity - the real offender, it keeps repeating the progression ad infinitum (sic!)

Vintage is a great track though IMHO...

Hmm, now that Coachella Opening is really going to be recycled in the album... well, here's hoping Hymn to Akropolis won't be the next one to reappear. :P
