"I am expecting a lot of things from 2019. I write a book, an activity a little different from what I did until now. It is a rather autobiographical work but which will be structured in a novel way. 2019 is also the 50th anniversary of the man who walked on the moon and Arte asked me to prepare a series of programs on this theme (I also have a concert project on the same subject). More generally, I look forward to the coming year to realize the need to live in good intelligence: both with nature and the environment, and with new technologies."

When Jarre released T&T and the reworked Oxygene in 2007, if I had been a betting man I would have betted on the odds that Jarre was going to retire and I did think he had.

IMO, I still think that Aero (the concert) was his lowest point.

Musically it is actually pretty nice (ignoring Light My Sky, that is... and I'm not too fond of the Disney Rendez-Vous 2 either), but otherwise it really made me think "he went from PLD - or even from Akropolis - to this?" due to his odd sluggish speeches and stage presence, the lack of the laser harp, with only Rimbert on the stage etc.

So, yeah, the audio-only version is pretty good.

You know what? Movement 6 has actually been my favorite track so far from what's been shown to us. The other tracks sounded nice enough, but Infinity has gotten me to listen to it multiple times, as I do think it's a legitimately fun track. Granted, I don't know if it's because I'm younger and thus used to more contemporary acts, that my time listening to Jarre has been about two years, or that I'm just never bothered much by sillier elements in music, but I don't think it's cheesy in the slightest. Hell, if that's what Teo & Tea (which I've avoided) is like, then I'm actually looking forward to hearing that album. Sue me.

As for the album itself, I get the feeling we're definitely gonna get another Oxy 7-13, where it's a mix of classic Jarre and contemporary styles. I enjoy a lot out of that album, but I think it's a bit disjointed as a whole, so I'm hoping Infinity balances it out better.

On the topic of Oxy 3, maybe it's just what I like in music, but I think it's a pretty great album. I especially love the first 4 tracks, though I like the rest when hearing it in full. I think it's just the raw emotion I get out of it, which allows me to connect to it more than even the original (though it's in no way better). Again, it might an age thing, but I genuinely believe there's more to it than some folks are saying.

Movement 6 is the best track. All the rest is in between… The whole album reminds me also on oxygene 7-13.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the first part of your interview, even because it sounds like Jarre was more open and comfortable to talk with someone following his career and who has indepth knowledge and earnest interest into his creative journey and the artistic dimension nurturing it (by this regard it has the same wit and pace of Matt Berry's podcasts).

I managed to meet him in person two years ago before the Rome concert and unfortunately there wasn't enough time (and the right circumstaces) to hold a similar interview, as other journalists were approaching him randomly asking him the same question over and over again "How do you feel about the 40th anniversary of Oxygene?" while I had a list of questions about his early painting experiments, his first exhibition, the pictorial style of "Waiting for Cousteau" and so on.
Even though the staff around him was putting him in a hurry he tried to answer my questions as he probably felt that there was more than a "journalistic" urge in my words. Though he had just the time to explain the concept behind the 3D visuals of the "Electronica" tour, alluding to his passion for scenography he studied in Rome during his student period.
Just before he was leaving, I stretched him the artbook I was trying to give him in 2008, after his first Rome concert (it was during the European leg of the "Oxygene tour"). At that point I was almost lost for words as he started to sign my lp, the Remilleux's book and the Docklands program, while I was thinking about my brother dying for pulmonary cancer at home (after he heard that he just remained silent). I didn't know what to do and I simply put an arm on his shoulder (I was in a mix of desperation and joyful dismay).
So it wasn't the memorable and relaxed meeting I was hoping for, even though being able to talk to him in that way felt like a sort of waking dream that someone interrupted abruptly.
Nevertheless few hours later I was able to write the live report for the music magazine that granted me the access to the rehersals (I wrote several articles and reviews about electronic music over the years), but I've always regretted not having met him in a more quiet environment, without the chaotic pressure of people around and the right time to explain him exactly why I was asking him those questions.
Your interwiew works somehow as a symbolic compensation.

Tomorrow to the date 40 years ago EQUINOXE was released. The rest is history....I used the Watchers and what might have become of them as an inspiration to EQUINOXE INFINITIY. I think Filip Hodas did a fantastic job in creating the two worlds I saw for the music of the album. This is a little throw back to 1979 to the beginning of the EQUINOXE story.
